Mk2.172 - Where to run the power cable to a boot install

Okay guyz, as normal, doing all my investigation work before getting down to the dirty work, so, if Im going to put an amp (or indeed amps) in a boot install based around/inside the spare wheel hole, where would you suggest running the power cable in the car, and do you hook it straight onto the battery and fuse it in the boot or is there a high level fuse you can tap off?

Any info would be great (as normal) and advice about my planned upgrade would be great too.

My current setup is Ive replaced all of the standard speakers with Infinity 552is which made it sound much better, but now Im considering a Stealth Shelf with a pair of Infinity 6x9s ......

Hi

The power cable can be run from the battery through the bulkhead through a rubber grommet that all the other cables go through. If you cant find a spare grommet you can drill a hole in the bulkhead. Then feed the cable under the plastic panels along the side of the car into the boot area. I would use 4 guage cable as it allows room for upgrading later. Then connect the amp. If you want to do a professional job, fuse both ends of the power cable, one close to the battery and one close to the amp. When you connect the amp use 4 guage earth cable (no more than a metre long) and connect it to a bolt in the boot. Make sure the cable is making contact with a bare metal surface. If there isnt one, file away some of the paint. If possible run the remote and RCA cables for the amp down the other side of the car as there may be interfernce otherwise.

Regarding the amp, i would go for a 4 or 5 channel. A four channel would run the front and rear speakers or just the front speakers and then 2 of the channels bridged for a sub (if needed). If you were looking to run a sub with more power, I would use a 4 channel to amp the fronts and rears and then get a seperate 2 channel or mono channel amp to run the sub.
Hope this helps

take a look at www.evilice.freeservers.com for some ideas of prices on amps, speakers and subs.

My cable goes through an existing grommet on the right side of the engine bay the alarm cables also go through here

Follow the bonnet pull cable, it goes through an oval grommet....there is plenty of room for even the thickest cable
