mk2 parts onto mk1

I've just recently bought a mk1 172. It's ok, but not the tidiest example in the world. Instead of just getting bits repaired/resprayed, I was wondering what parts from a mk2 fit easily?

I've got some mk2 alloys sorted, and rear lights. I've also read another thread that says the rear bumper is a fairly straight forward swap.

Are the bump strips on the sides the same fittings? Only a local breakers said that you need to cut mk2 strips to fit a mk1, but after removing mine, the holes look the same as my girlfs old mk2.

Also, how do you go out swapping over the surround for the boot button? Thats the only thing im not sure about on the rear really.

With the front, how much work is involved in fitting the mk2 lights. I presume i'd need the mk2 bonnet and wings as well, but is anything else different? Slam panel for instance?

Thanks

PS, if anyone has got any pics of a mk1 with any mk2 parts, i'd be interested to see, cheers

rear bumper you need bumper and rear arch linings, the side strips need a little modding iirc, but will fit, the boot button, i think isnt that straigh forward and you'd be better off buying the boot of a mk2. to convert the front (why you'd want to as the mk1 is far better imho) you would need bumper, wings, arch liners, bonnet and i think thats it.

personally i would just get your front bumper and side strips colour coded, mk2 bumper, cup spoiler, mk2 rear lights, and aftermarket alloys if you dont like the standard items, maybe some pro race1's or 2's, or rotaslipstreams, all nice light weight alloys.

The bump strips dont need any modification, just a straight swap have done it one mine. Clip into the same holes. You will need the 2.0 16v badges too!
