Mk2 Ph1 Fusebox help.

  Nissan 350z
Hi all.

For those of you with paid membership im trying to follow Daves very helpful guide here:
http://www.cliosport.net/forum/showthread.php?t=240464
For those of you without its basically a guide written to modify Mk2 Ph1 standard headlights into dual optic ones found on sports models.

Anyway so i started stripping my old headlights out on Saturday working my way through the guide then i noticed something wrong. I need some help/advice from someone with electrical knowledge. In Daves guide he mentions:
Fuse:

In order to make the low beam stay on with the high beam a fuse has to be added to the fusebox, all clios have the wiring ready, you just need to pop the fuse into position. This is also required to pass a MOT. The fusebox is on the drivers side on the end of the dash (open the door) clip off the panel. The position to add the fuse is where it says dual headlights in the manual, the symbol is a light with 3 straight lines next to it.

Which from my understanding is this:

Make sense so far? Good.

Heres my problem however. I popped open my fusebox and heres what i find:

As you can see the slot where the fuse is supposed to be inserted is empty. Sure i could put a fuse in it but whats the use when theres no metal connectors to hold it securely. I would imagine putting a fuse into an empty plastic slot is kinda useless?

So basically where does this leave me. Am i missing something stupidly obvious or does it look like Daves comment about "all clios have the wiring ready" isnt quite spot on?

Cheers.

As far as i know the guide, while useful, is not entirely 'accurate'.

Argh dont say that Marky! Not at this late stage! :/

Not after sourcing a pair of dual optics headlights, buying all the bulbs, spending £20 on crimping tools, wiring, terminals etc, stripping out my old headlights then opening the fusebox.... "OH SH**!!!"

Dont get me wrong, i did pop open the fusebox prior to this to check if i needed a fuse or not so i merely glanced at the empty slot and with Daves guide in my head thought "yep i need to pop the fuse there". It wasnt until i physically went to insert the fuse it struck me something wasnt right.

Looking in the manual it says both of the fuse places you have marked are "Not used". But if you look carefully at the pic of the fuse box in the manual there is a fuse in the holder you are saying does not have any clips.

I would love to know this because at current when I want main beams and dipped beams I just hold the stalk back without clicking it into main beam mode. I only need it on short bursts if local and so its quick to stop main beam when other cars approaching.

Saner, who is able to change the wording in the guide?

This has caused problems for quite a few people.

I don't use my full beams much ;)

Me either, but you need it to pass your MOT and be road legal i thought?

Marky does this mean you have performed this modification in the past? Were there any other inconsistancies to the guide other than this fusebox issue?

Oh and if we are editing the guide please include that the 5Amp fuse isnt red its orange.

Yeah you're right about the MOT, but they're very simple to swap back (probably far easier than a cat for instance).

Everything else in the guide is fine. In fact it's a brilliant guide apart from that one sentence. Great work by Dave :approve:

Hmm so i take it a permanent solution to the missing fusebox clips is out of the question and the only answer is dont put in for your MOT with the headlights fitted?

Not really what i was after when i decided upon this mod. Oh well s**t happens i guess. :/

I don't think there's a easy way around it. I'd assume it'd involve something like changing the loom (but i'm far from an expert).

Hopefully if someone knows, they'll post here, but when i started pretty much the same thread i got less replies than this :dapprove:

I thought "Sod it, i've bought all this stuff, i may as well fit them, for a while at least". Was quite poor timing beacuse i fitted them a couple of weeks before my MOT was due!

Well based on the weather im going to give it another bash this weekend so i will let you know how i get on. I guess i will have to go with the "bodge it but dont go for an MOT" approach :/
