Recently my wipers have started creaking, is this due to needing new blades or is it something else?

Try checking the bolts at the base of the wipers, underneath the plastic caps, the mechanism may have got some water or something in it which has rusted it up a bit or similar. A bit of WD40 would sort that. Or, like Mark says, replace the wipers because it could be them. My mum's old Fiesta used to sqeak so much, it was painful. That was definitely the wipers though, the blades had slid out of position slightly.
