Mk2 phase 1 does the key have a transponder?

Just carried out a button repair on a remote for the clio a I just bought for my daughter for which the remote locking did not work, so now have a working key/remote but want a spare , can I just get a blank cut as a back up , or does it have a transponder that needs programming ?

It will need programming, IIRC Renault charges ~£100 for it.
