Mobil 1 in a 172?

As above I was wondering if there any problems
using Mobil 1 0-40W in a 172 as Castrol recommends
the edge 0-30W. Yet Mobil 1 exceeds all manufactures
requirements of engine Oil. Any thoughts please.

10w40 will do a lot better, 5w40 is also often used

Wouldn't use a xW30

At this time oif year i'd stick with a 5W40 fully synth, 10W40 and 15W40 will give high oil pressures at start up, esp when its the likes of -2 deg c.

Mobil one is, or always was renound for being shite at higher temps, ran it once in my mk1, make it sound like a tractor so never used it since

Im currently running Mobil 1 and car runs the same as it has done on any other oil iv used

Think 5w40 fully synthetic stuff is your best bet!!

Personally ill never keep the car long enough to see the benefits of using good quality oil (ovi i keep it topped up etc..) i just use the halfords stuff

Also fine with 10-40

the first number i.e. 0W-5W meant the
thinner the oil was when it's cold so the
easier it gets around the engine when
first starting?

I use Mobil 1 0-40 in mine, no problems (obviously as like you say, exceeds all over required qualities)...

Mainly go for it though as it is what they have cheap in Costco lol.. £23 inc.

I use morris's 5/30 in mine! no worries there! about £14 trade for 5 litres! I change it every 3k though!

Yeap you are correct in what you say, 10-40 will be more than adequte for english weather. However i tend to use 5-40 anyway

Any oil will eventually leak through a Renault seal mate...

My source is a respected Renault Specialist.

Well yeah everything breaks eventually lol, i suppose i should have said "using thinner oil will ruduce the life of the seals" perhaps but anyway

Im using ATF and have been for months without a problem i cant imagine thats much thicker than 10-40
