older cars are more expensive to insure, so that blows that theory out the water! It's cheaper for me to insure a standard 182 than it is a 172 Ph1 or Ph2, Williams standard was more expensive than the lot... guess it must depend on where you live, previous offenses etc, but at your age I'd have thought it would be much cheaper.
Take it the alarm etc is standard and you dont have a tracker etc on it? The tracker I got for mine put my premium last year down by several hundred!
A couple of the online quotes didnt allow me to enter mods. It was still coming out at £500 on a standard 182.
I dont have a tracker fitted. How much are they?
f**k getting quotes online, you're best phoning them up and arguing about the prices and getting them down that way I've always found. I was with Hyperformance last year and they were really good at the time, but dont accept their first couple of quotes, as they go direct to the underwriter as most do I guess, but seem to get better deals than most.
I'd stick with Green Light personally and see if they can beat that quote, I'd speak to David there as he sorted mine out for me and to be honest has been an absolute star, as Hyperformance wanted more than I paid last year... but unless my insurance goes down each year I just change it... still though, £500 on a stock 182 seems horrendous to me, I got quote just over £260 a few months ago, Williams is still just under £400 if I get another... no idea what or how they work them out from, just seems totally random at times.
My tracker was £1500 with the alarm and anti-hijack. It was uber expensive, but it locks the c**t stealing my car inside, cuts the engine and notifies the police. Bit annoying if I move it without the ignition though, like pushing it down the road in an evening so as not to wake the neighbours if I'm blocking someone in the drive, or putting it on a low loader, as you get text messages and automated calls asking if it's been stolen... but you can track its location online which is cool. Good for that time the AA thought they lost it on the M1 when my fuel line burst and I sent it away to be fixed lol
Phone up Green Light, ask if they will get the premium down and ask them what you can do to get it down, a tracker and uprated alarm should make a difference, it was £400 cheaper on mine last year.
