Modifying cars to a high standard then selling them on straight after..

  Qashcow
ive seen this too. my car will either be written off, scrapped or sold as parts whens its rusted through the body. basically, i spend all the money on mine but ive no intention of selling it.

like warren says, if your going to spend the monies on it, drive it properly on track!

like guppy, ive taken 3 years to get mine where it is and in the long run i hope to have one of the most 'complete' ph1's on here. but thats a long way away and going to cost alot more to achieve, but i'll have spent less on it, inc supercharging it, than i did on my previous car in 8 months!!

I've spent a few thousand on mine, and another few in a few days when I get the S/C.

I don't plan on selling my car ever, the resale value on a stripped Ph1 172 isn't more than £1k, I sold all the interior to fund bucket seats etc.. I take the car on track quite a lot, and use it on the road, It's hard on the road and noisy but I like the rawness of it! I know the car inside out as I know everything thats been replaced etc so to buy a new car I wouldn't get the security of knowing its all ok.

I know I'm alway going to have a fun car until it's no longer useable!

with the amount of track cars on this forum, im surprised when i go to a track day and theirs only generally 1 or 2 clios lol

i get why people do it, as i did it with my first car (never, ever again!) - modifying it is actually a part of the ownership experience for people who do this. you part with the car once you're bored with it. it does not end before then

the thing is not to repeat the 'mistake' with the next one IMO

if you're building a track car, best to sit down for a long while with a budget and talk to people to come up with a spec - you then build the car; it's finished (leave it alone! unless you've gone wrong somewhere); and then enjoy it in the use that you built it for

people turn road cars into undriveable pseudo-track cars by accident;)

all IMO, etc:)

i think alot of people strip their car out because it is the fashionable thing to do at the momment just like big fibreglass body kits were a few years ago. its also a way of getting more bhp per ton for free too. but like said it makes the car impractical to use every day. most of my mates at work have theirs stripped out and on hard coilies but when every we all pop to the shops at dinner, we have to go in mine because non of them have any seats. and driving down the road they have to take it easy so they dont skip across the black stuff and end up on the pavment. stuff like this would annoy me if it was an everyday thing. which is why mines still got everything in it although i would still fit coilies if i had the cash lol.

I know I'm selling mine soon yet keep spending money tinkering with it. It's just a hobby, I have the disposable income that allows me to so why not?

It's not so much tinkering that confuses me. It's when people spend 3-4k on parts, and then sell the following month... And say ''house purchase forces sell etc''

The last 12 years has given access to cheap money through credit and loans to people who would normally apply and get 'err computer says no'. Well 'computer said yes' and these people are making use of other peoples money to buy things they cant afford, in this case expensive engines, roll cages and car parts. A fool and his (or someone else's) money is quickly parted. The last 12 years has been one giant pissing contest to see who could attach the most expensive modifications to a cheap second hand tin can car.

However, the tap has now well and truely been turned off and these people cannot sustain the lives they have been living the lst 12 years and the bills are coming in. So they need cash and fast or bankruptcy approaches. So they sell what they built in a depressed market for whatever they can get. The bubble has burst and now we are starting to see the true market value of goods, dictated not by credit but the money people take home in their pay.

Bye bye new labour. Bye bye cheap credit. Bye bye whats left of great Britain.

Hello IMF. Hello failed state. Hello lots of cheap second hand cars with shiny throttle bodies and roll cages.

All those who have saved and hold cash will pick up the bargains. All those who have borrowed wrecklessly and got into debt are fucked.

All I can say it thank f*ck my car came with a Cup spoiler and Turinis as standard! ;)

I seem to be spending my time rectifying/ replacing crap bits (new seats, engine mounts, refurb wheels, new exhaust and mounts, removing awful Greenstuff pads and replacing Apex springs (*shudder*) with Eibachs).

Been there, done that....... First car back in Y2K was an L Reg 1.1 Metro Quest. Christ, what a machine!lol! Spent a FORTUNE ;) on it then sold it for half the price I bought it a year later.

You should have seen the beast, 5 door, awesome 13" trims, the phrase "rolling deep" springs to mind.

De badged, GB number plates, sexual chrome exhaust trim from Halfrauds and even spent hours heating the multi-coloured stickers with a hair dryer and peeling off. Couple this with the fact the hydro-elastic suspension was a bit low on juice it really was a Euro-stylee BEAST!!

Sony headunit, Infinity 6x9's and a Poppy Coral air freshner completed the package, boy she was a beauty!

My mates in their brand new (T Plate, purchased by Mummy and Daddy) Fiat Punto Sporting's and Pug 106's must have been so jealous!!

Anyway, despite having the ULTIMATE 4 speed machine I decided you really could not improve such a specimen any further, I got the hydro elastic suspension serviced (as obviously this wasn't an actual mod), drove it for another 2 months and then sold it to buy a mkII AXGT.

Maybe I should have tracked that fooker........lol

I've spent some silly money on modding cars over the years, but I can't believe the speed people seem to do things!!!! Part of the enjoyment for me is making the most of each new thing, that way you dont get bored anything like as easily and it makes what you've spent in total a lot more worth it. Modding has never been about the value of the car for me, but getting the car i want

  Many Things
I love doing things to my car to see the benefits on the road, not just to post a few pics on here and everyone to go WOW! and my ego to grow a little bit more

Hopefully i shall be doing a few other things but not going to spend silly money, its a daily driver, ive had semi- stripped cars before and for everyday use id rather have my comfy half leather/suede seats and back seats

When I can afford a mk5 golf gti or R26 i will put the clio into retirement in the garage and strip it down and take it on track, but not as a daily drive.

I'd never do that. I Maybe spend a couple of £100 every few months on it. I've still parts left in the garage but don't know whether it's worth spending the money required on them to fit them lol.

LOL, I've started to sell off a pile of parts that i'd had sat around unfitted for 2 years. £500 so far from bit's i'd forgotten about.

Not keeping any of the standard bits, don't think I'll sell this one, wouldn't be worth it.
