Monitors.

Linked to the thread I made regarding a new PC, could someone recommend a decent monitor to run alongside it?

I'm not paying silly prices, so the cheaper (but also worthwhile), the better. I've seen some for £85 and some for £1200. I'm not a f*cking lunatic so the latter is just not an option.

I want to be able to play decent games utilising the graphic card capabilities and also do a bit of editing, so whatever you could suggest would be great.

Check that 3D one out mate. Could be pretty damn cool

120hz is excellent for gaming, it used to only be CRT's that could perform that high.

Only worth having a 3D vision monitor, if he gets an Nvidia card though. No Nvidia card = No 3D.

Basically decide on your spec first. Then work out what monitor you want. You don't really need 120hz with LCD's 60hz on a CRT is horrible to look at 60hz on an LCD you can't really tell.

A monitor with good colours, no input lag etc is more important.

Case of we need a rough budget, any size restraints as there are some half decent 27" panels around the £300 mark. 23 and 24" panels can be had under £200. 3D ones are a bit more expensive. But again pointless if you do not have an Nvidia card just paying extra for something you can't use.

I thought the human eye can only differenciate up to 60hz, anything above that doesn't give any benefit as your eyes can't update as quick as the monitor?

Human eye can see past 60hz. Just 60hz/FPS is the point where motion is smooth to the human eye.

It would only be up to 22" I'd say. Not really too fussed with the 3D, although for the price I guess it's quite appealing.

All serious PC gamers use 120hz monitors, hence why big LAN events all have CRT's instead of Flat Panels. 120hz DOES look better for gaming, not a massive difference but it does. You won't need 120hz Scutch, any LED/LCD with low response times will be more than sufficient for what you need. I bought a Sumsung Syncmaster PH2450H and I absolutely love it. Looks awesome.

Not sure what you mean there, m8? The 20" is 1600x900 in 16:9 ratio and the larger 22" is in 1680x1050 in 16:10 ratio.

Yeah sorry, was looking at the wrong one. Cheers for that. Decent price too. So Iiyama are tip top?

There's no arguing that there will be better ones out there - but for the money, they are brilliant. Used them for years at home - even back in the CRT days. Currently run on a 26" Iiyama at home and their customer services are superb.

They make nothing other than displays and screens, so they are quite product focused. :)

people always say that but when i am gaming i can notice when my games go below 100fps

unless the counter on the screen isn't right ;)

I've had experience of iiyama customer services and it was spot on.

Had a 19" lcd die after nearly 3 years rang them on a Friday and had a replacement on Monday.

Samsung were good from a warranty perspective. Swapped on the door step within 48hours.

Go as big as you can afford.

What refresh rate does your monitor support though? As I said you can see more, but 60fps is the smooth point.
