More bloody knocking!!

  1.8 Civic EX
this one has me well and truely baffled...it's not the strut top knocking i don't think..the noise is too "solid" if you know what i mean.

passenger side front wheel area. only does it when reversing on almost full lock right hand down??

here's the even more confusing thing...it only seems to do it when cold. ie; it did it just now as i pulled out of the parking bay at work, i got home to a nice big area and tried reversing in all directions and at different angles and it didn't do it???!

really?? maybe not fitted properly? it's been doing it for a fair old while but it was really bad today...wonder if i let the car warm up before i move if it will still do it...

if its like what happen to mine i.e caliper lost 1 of bolts the noise will get louder in time, i was baffled for ages to and only figured it wen other bolt came and whole brake assembly fell apart, my bro in laws 172 did excatly the same thing

ideally would be easier to take the wheel off and see if the caliper swings away from the pad carrier because the calipers are pretty close to the wheels. see if theres any score marks on the inside of ya wheels or even if the caliper is resting on the inside of the wheel or put full lock on and see if theres bolt missing from the caliper

typical! it didn't do it this morning lol had a quick look and there is no sign of the caliper being loose. Hopefully get the wheel off tonight to have a proper look.

Anything else it might be just in case?

Ive had the exact same problem but even worse!

On full lock (or even alomst full lock) forwards or backwards i get this pretty nasty knocking/rubbing/grinding noise coming from the front somewhere Id say.

Its definately much worse when the car is cold, and doesnt seem to tbe there at all when the car has had chance to warm up. Ive had it into Renault dealer twice who say they have modified the suspension mounts but this hasnt fixed the problem at all. Also I was told that this wasnt covered under the normal Renault warranty and I ended up paying £90 for the work!?

Anyone any ideas what else this could be and how I can check for it?

Car is a 54 reg 182 btw.

Cheers!

Try your front antiroll bar bushes the outer ones where they join the front arms either swap em or grease em . worth a try, they only cheap . Cured mine.:D

I'm thinking it's the seexed Diff sugestion...since I put this post up it hasn't done it, it was any of the other sugestions I would have thought it would always do it!??!

Plus it's not been quite as cold here in the mornings recently

dont know if this helps, but i had a knocking noise coming from front passenger wheel area...turned out to be a ball joint with too much play...not too expensive to change and has fixed the knocking completely.

your cars not as old as mine but might still be worth checking if you havent found the cause of the knocking...

good luck
