More power!

  Clio 1.4 16v Billabong
I have a 1.4 16v 53 plate clio, now with me being 19 and an apprentice i dont have allot of money so i cant go an buy a faster car so with what money i have i would like to increase the power of my car. Obviously i dont expect a great gain of bhp. An i dont really see a point of spending a fortune on a 1.4 but i have bought it on finance and expect to keep it for 2 - 3 years.

So if any one has any suggestions please will you let us know what you did or what you would do!

Many thanks Steve

put it on a diet, stripped it out n bucket seats - u can remove mods like this when u come to sell it & won't affect the reliability on the engine, only flaw is if u usally have more than 2 ppl in ur car u may strugle to cope lol

Yeah you could also maybe invest in some better wheels.

Look at turinis or ultraleggeras or something.

Light weight and come with 205mm tyres to help get more rubber on the road.

I used to have a 1.4 16v b4 i got my 182. best way to get more power is lower it, put lightwieght track day alloys so you will get quicker acceleration, k-tec can sort u 4 that. If you go on the web site u can see my old car in the wheel and tyre package section, black 1.4. Then get a pipercross viper air filter and powerflow exhaust and u will definatly notice it, then if u can justify it get a bbr/starchip remap which will put it up by another 10bhp! My old car was quick, and then u can easily munch chavy vtr's for breakfast. lol! Hope that helps.

i wouldnt bother. Youd only see it as a waste of money a couple of months later.

The best gain in bhp for money is moving from a non sport, to a sport. You can pic up a ph1 172 for 3600 really. Wait a year or 2 see what the insurance is like etc.

I will be on a really crap wage for 2 more years so i cant afford to get a 172 as i bought this 1.4 16v on finance :(

fair enough dude.. in that case, go for airfilter, cold air feed, exhaust system and youll see 5bhp i reckon. not much point in changin the ecu to up the limiter because uill be past optimum rev for gear change.

just be aware of the insurance for the mods etc.

Stripped and lowered best thing you can do, im an apprentice to fella ;)

Wow what do you do as you have a scooby and a R5?

I work for London Underground mate with the Emergency response unit it's a 4 year apprenticeship based on civil and railway engineering.

You could always wait a year or two, save then upgrade to a 172 , I had a 172 cup before the scooby as I saved like mad, but it paid off in the end.

P.S Loving the pimp comment Steve :rasp:

Take it you are on your last few years then?

Im doing a commercial apprentership - wage is pretty poor and i am on my second year, i might just save like you said does seem like a better idea in the long run.
