Take it to birchdown. job done

That TBH.

Many garages know what they're doing but these engines are massively temperamental. My local garage does all sorts on all our families cars and has done for years, trust them and they always do a good job but I made a much longer (and more expensive) journey to get my cambelt etc done because I wanted someone who does these all the time and know what they're doing.

I'd get it away from them. If you're embarrassed to say you don't trust them, say you can't afford it all atm so you'll get it out their way. But getting it to Birchdown is the best thing you can do. A lot of these cars are 'fixed' by people and the driver doesn't know any different until it goes bang.

Birchdown..

Opening hours are Monday - Friday, 8.30 - 5.30.

Email : birchdown@btinternet.com

Phone : 01948 860335

Cheers guys, yep sensible advice that really.

I did actually contact Andy at Birchdown whilst the Garage had it.

I will look into taking it there.

It's just a pain as the Garage that has it now has had it since Tue and has took it to bits trying to sort it for us, even though they haven't sorted it i'm guessing i should pay them something in fact i'd feel guilty if i didn't to be fair although giving me a Nissan Primara as a courtesy car is harsh!

Anyone know how much i should pay them for the time and stuff? he's a decent bloke is John the owner.

OK, well that engine has had it IMO. He seems to be giving you quite good advice as far as replacing it goes

You reckon it's a new 'un? he's a genuine bloke but he's the first to admit that he's not familiar with this engine, could he be mistaken??

I hope it aint a new engine because i really didn't think it was that bad.

2 options there... Full rebuild or replacement looking at that crank, and replacing it will be far more economical.

Ouch!

I've always said and will again, a car is only reliable as the owner. If it's not looked after, maintained or abused, it'll eventually bite back

Nothing against what everyone is saying, I go out of my way to go to Danny, but I think this guy knows what he is talking about!

There is no way that big end bearings should look like that! I have no experience with chain drive oil pumps but to me that chain looks way to slack.

As everyone says get it along to a specialist but I think personally that it is a full engine rebuild or a replacement lump.....

Which seems to be what everyone else is saying!

Saga that was!

Thought i'd post an update not that anyone's interested!

Picking my motor up today after having the work done, all fixed but a few ££ lighter but i'm chuft to bits no new engine malarky! :approve:

Mechanic did say there is a nut missing from the Alternator - should be three holding it but he only found two, anyone know if they are readily available anywhere and what type it is?

Anyways, lesson learnt the hard way.

Going in for it's MOT asap now.

Did that garage endup doing the work or did you take it to a specialist?

Seems like a lot of kerfuffle for a missing nut on an alternator mate.

Just found this thread, be interested to know what was wrong.

Well lads with respect and i know quite a few of you boys know your stuff obviously, it didn't need a new engine which i thought would be the case to be honest, glad about that.

I've had the Dephaser replaced, all new belts and a service for good measure running like a dream now.

All done by a specialist of course, seen the error of my ways with that one! :)
