MOT fail!

wasnt really looking forward to this day, as my car was booked in at a car supermarket (eddie wrights in scunny) coz due to previous problems i got a free service n MOT out of them, and i thought they would rip me off by "finding" something wrong and making their money back as ive saved £200 by getting them free.

anyway, all is good with the service but mot failed on emissions i have a 182 by the way, with a ktec unsilenced ultra exhaust n custom sports cat
the failings...
Fast idle CO should be 0.30% mine 0.55%
second fast idle, should be 0.30% mine 0.56%
natural idle, should be 0.50% mine 0.66%

pissed me off really of how close it was and am sure the garage i would of took it too, would of looked at it with one eye shut, and the fact that the place wont book in to have it looked at ive got to take it somewhere else to get sorted ffs, got it booked in at the garage i would of gone to, to get looked at, the emissions light is one n it has been for months, i thought the sensor has just picked up on a little something as i know they are very sensative when an aftermarket exhaust is fitted and didnt think anything of it.
i asked if it had been warmed up before and he said yeah, because its had a service on it and they would of tested everything after... coz how close it is i think it just hasnt been warmed up enough.

and to top it all off, on picking my car up, i checked paper work and they had replaced the air filter... i have a ITG panel one fitted... so i asked him "have u changed the air filter?" he said "yeah, its in for a full service so we just took it out n put another one in" i replied looked pissed "but its a performance filter and didnt need changing" "oh, they didnt realise," he replied, i said "can i have it back then", "ill just go look for it..." leaves me thinking yeah i bet its in some1s bag ready to go on ebay... comes back with a renault air filter box with my ITG in, just cant help thinking that it was nicely put in a box ready to be fitted to another car or put on ebay...w*****s!

Do you have the sticker on your airbox that comes with the ITG saying what it is?? If you do then that takes the p*** that they removed it!

On the other hand if you don't and you didn't actually say not to change it then that's fair in my eyes as they were just doing the service as required...

P.s...Is it a KTEC sports cat you have as I might need to buy one soon and was wondering about MOTs??

but surely a machanic can tell the difference between a filter that says renault or nothing on it, to one that say ITG in big white letters!

the mechanic might of thought why the hell would you want the itg filter changing to a stock one as you didnt tell him to leave it in

take it for a good ragging to get the cat glowing then pop back for emmissions test, bet it passes.

To be honest, if your emmisions light is on with a sports cat, you may have a duff sensor, although those readings are quite close to the limit, they are usually nowhere near them when a car in good shape is tested.

You've got a full exhaust system with a sports cat pipe... and seem suprised it failed an emissions test?

These things happen when you play with performance exhausts...

Yeah. Exhaustuk in Sheffield said it would pass the test that's y.

update,

its been into the local garage i use, and they thought it might just need warming up properly and then it would pass, but this isnt the case, didnt make any difference to the results and they said the engine errors are refering to the sports cat, 4 error codes saying the cat has failed...
the cat is a custom sports cat from ExhuastsUK fitted in feb this year and they said it would pass an MOT, waiting for a phone call back from ExhuastUK now.

any advice on what i should do now?

sports cats in my personal mot testing experiance hardly ever pass

well, the reason i had the sports cat fitted, was because the car had a decat on n it was stupidly loud. and i couldnt get hold of a standard cat, n a new one was £1000+ and i couldnt get a second hand one cheaper than 300 so i thought id get a new one fitted.

Exhaust uk got bk to me and am going tomorrow to have them look at it n replace the cat

Just so you know exhausts UK are shite they butchered my down pipe to put a de-cat on and a mate of mine had a manifold done by them and had to have it rewelded 4 times before telling them he wanted them to pay out for an ecosse one because he was fed up of there crap workmanship.

That's not good! Yeah I'll b on my guard today then. I know am not paying fuk all for owt today! Gunna get it sorted free. It's bad enough I've gota travel an hour to get there!

Exhaustuk have said it needs a different type of cat. So they r replacing it with a new one. So hopefully it'll pass now lol

GO get an MOT test done near or as close as possible to Exhausts UK then if it fails again you can go straight back to them.

i had a sports cat (from k tech) on my 182, passed every MOT no probs.

Lol after a new cat... It failed again! With pritty much the sane readings. But they retested it and bunged up the exhaust tips with rags n get readings that passed. I now have an mot!!!

I rang exhaustuk bk up and told them the story n they want me to come back over to Sheffield to get the back pressure increased as this is causing it to fail mot.... Putting something in the backbox, plates may be to increase the back pressure.

But after driving home after retest. My car now whistles below 2k revs. Any ideas?

I asked them this and they haven't!!! Coz they aren't an mot station they haven't got one! Crazy since they are an exhaust company!!
