MOT woes

Hello all,

I have lost my current MOT certificate, I have called the garage who carried out the last one and they advised me that it was carried out on 27/4/12. I intend on having a new one carried out ASAP.

The problems my car has are non working headlight washers and an exhaust which appears to be blowing in a couple of the welded joints. I cannot afford a replacement exhaust at the moment and have been advised to try Gun gum??? would this be sensible to try as there is no corrosion just crap welds.

So, what to do about the exhaust and washers?

Any help greatly appreciated.

Headlight washers I wouldn't worry so much about, mine have been disconnected and I have never had any isses with mots.

The exhaust will no doubts cause it to fail, can you not take it some where and just have it welded for £20-30?

Great guys, cheers.

With regard to the exhaust, I believe that the engine side of the cat is blowing also. Not at the coupling but an actual weld on the cat itself. Is this repairable also? As I said its not corroded and there are no holes, just slight gaps at the welds.

Anyone know a very friendly MOT tester in Edinburgh?

Best bet is to nip down to your local tyre and exhaust place if you have one, give them your info and ask them nicely if they could weld it up at the crack. The exhaust paste drys and cracks off so isnt worth while.

Hopefully the washers go un noticed. I wouldn't worry about them, just the exhaust.

Slap some exhaust paste on the night before MOT, then when you have a bit of cash have it welded!

As for washers, mine don't work & passed last MOT!

I have spent the last 30 minutes under the car with it idling. I now cannot see hear or smell any leaks. I have also firmly placed my gloved hand over the exhaust tip, blocking it and there are still no visible leaks!

MOT will be done tomorrow so I don't know wether or not this is going to be an issue.

Any of you fine chaps have advice for me?
