Motherboard/CPU Installation help!

New bits arrived yesterday, having issues gettin it working tho!

Spec is as follow
Asrock 775i65G motherboard
Intel Pentium D 805 Dual Core 2.66
300gig master
120 gig slave
DVD write master
CD writer slave
1x PC2700 1 gig ram
Nvidia graphics card (Forgot spec, 256meg jobbie)

So I install cpu in mobo, locks in place fine, heatsink on top ok, ram installed, hard drives connected, plug in power cable and that 4 pin jobby, basically plug everything in, switch on, sounds like its doing summit, all fans fire up but nowt gets displayed on screen, sounds like its loading for 5 seconds or so then stops, so assuming it goes into bios but I can't see owt to confirm lol

Its got onboard graphics so tried plugging monitor into that and the nvidia card, nowt, tried removing nvidia card and rebooting, nowt.

I've done some research and been told that the jumper settings might need setting to clear or open or summit, have to read manual after work, but can anyone think of owt else to try? PSU should be ok (tried booting with just 1 hard drive and nowt else, same thing), ram is compatable (PC2700) hard drives are ok (know I need to do a fresh install once I can see summit lol) I've double checked that the CPU is seated correctly which it is and double checked all the leads.

You will need to go into the BIOS (usually del) and set the boot order as CDROM, then you'll need slap your OS CD in and reboot.

Does it POST? (power on self test) Do you get a single beep after maybe 5 or so seconds? If not, check that your case speaker is connected to the mobo and try again (just to confirm a failed POST). If it doesn't do a successful POST then you've got kind of hardware conflict.

what you got is a short on the motherboard touching the case, take the motherboard out, and re-seat it. did you use the round paper washers, be sure to use them. try with no memory and no cpu, and no graphics card, just use the onboard stuff for now

Motherboard was fitted correctly in the case on the mountings provided so it aint that and I aint booting without a cpu, nowt will work then lol tried booting with nowt else plugged in jack.

Didn't bother connecting case speaker up but will give that a try to see if I hear any beeps without any ram in or owt.

I've a feeling its a jumper, Google'd it bought up results of the manufacturer leaving a jumper on that needs to come off in order for it to clear cmos or summit or other, can't remember what it said but same thing kept coming up on various pc help sites.

Last PC I built had none of these issues, whacked it all in and off it went lol this is prooving more difficult!

Schoolboy error, you must connect the case speaker, it's your only means of knowing what's wrong if it fails to POST. You should have a list of beep codes somewhere in your mobo manual. One beep means healthy.

The jumper you speak of is the CMOS jumper, you shouldn't need to use that if you haven't yet even been in the BIOS. A failed post is often the result of BIOS mistakes that prevent the system booting. Using the CMOS jumper, or removing it's battery, resets everything to factory. That's probably why you're getting that a lot in Google etc.

Yeh building them is gayy!!

My last 3 all gone fine n now this one is being a tw@t!!

it loads up at the start then wen it tries to install OS a blue screen comes up with all this binary code,

I need to update the bios of the mobo!

i would try again, take the mboard out of the case stick it on some cardboard, plus the power lead and vga lead in, plus the floppy drive, and see what it does, it should come on with no cpu or memory, just bios warnings should happen.

First off, starting a machine with no CPU WILL NOT WORK.

Now, plug in CPU, place fan on top, PLUG fan into correct fan socket.
Plug in memory. Plug in mouse, keyboard and video to onboard. Also plug in speaker to motherboard.

Power up.

Anything?

Im a computer technician so ill be able to help.

I don't think he's tried booting with no CPU. Plus, I think it's been established that he needs to connect the case speaker.

Lol I'll offer a prize of naked pics of my ex I split up with over weekend to whoever tells me whats wrong hehe

Finish work at 5, so if I don't post by 10/11pm tonate you know I've still not figured out the issue!! Gonna try resetting everything using the jumpers, checking everything again, plugging the whole lot in including internal speaker and see if I sort owt, after resetting gonna just use onboard graphics rather then trying to use my GFX card to.

Well after much trial and error, I'm guessing the motherboard must be fucked! I've tried literally everything but it just won't boot up at all, I've had the cpu in and out 3 or 4 times and nowt, looked closely at motherboard and 2 or 3 pins appear to be bent, could have been like that from the start but there that small I'd have never have known without studying it for a minute or so.

So emailed Microdirect, see if they'll refund, I've ordered another mobo anyway, Asus one this time, don't rate trust Asrock now. Hope it is the mobo and not the cpu lol

If your CPU is a Dual core pentium, I think I am right in saying it is DDR 2, You said you are using PC2700, that is old ram now, if your not using DDR2 then that would explain your problems

Not according to there website, says

It didn't beep or do anything at all, I did a little test, on my old mobo and cpu, left cpu out, turned on and did exactly same as new un, nowt happened, didn't even beep or owt, refitted cpu, switched on and it beeped and went into bios and thats what I'm using now again, old mobo and cpu. Summit not rate with mobo or CPU and I'm guessing its the mobo.

WOW, I ddn't think anybody used it anymore, I thought it was near enough obsolete, just a thought, I've always been an AMD man but i'm building my missus a computer for a crimbo present with a Pentium D 925 with 800mhz DDR2, so I assumed they would ussually require DDR2, oh well, just a suggestion

Now sorted, asus motherboard worked a treat, Asrock was w**k, fucked!

So now running a nice dual core currently clocked from 2.66 to 3 but your right it does run hooooot lol 40 on idle, 46 under load, artic freezer cooler already ordered, then look at clocking some more. Runs alrate as it is tho!

How hot is hot then? Considering my old P4 2.4 ran at 20 idle, 25 under load this seems hot lol

Heres one to wet your whistle, now if you tell me how hot I should expect this cpu to run and what I need to upgrade next to get it clocked stable above 3ghz I'll post more ;)

PSU is old crappy un, so that needs doing I think
RAM is 1 512 PC2100, 1x 1 gig PC2700

Ok P4's generally run a lot hotter then AMD chips, but the temps you are getting are fine. To overclock with success I would Seriously recommend an Artic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro.

PC2100 ram is antique now, and putting a PC2700 with it wont help, the 1 gig stick will drop down to PC2100 speeds

Get either a gig or 2 gig dual channel kit of the highest frequency that your Motherboard will allow, this will allow you to take your FSB very high without having to adjust you Ram divider, if you have the money buy specific overclocking Ram, which will have low Latencies

If you tell me your motherboard and Cpu I will try and recomend you some RAM, post links to the Mobo

Shame your motherboard was DOA. Asrock i dont rate much. Glad you got a proper board and it now works.

Recently bought artic cooler freezer pro to bring temps down and found out my ancient power supply was 250w lol so got a 500w one in now, seems to be stable clocked at 3ghz now, not go above that tho, need to change me PC2700 ram I reckon!
