Apart from the fact you dont get a Thatcham Cat 1 Alarm . You need to get this sorted out or your insurance will be invalidated.Quote: Originally posted by cli0 172 on 08 March 2004

has anyone bought anything from motorpoint?
does it affect resale having first garage in France?
That may happen now, but when I bought mine dealers werent offering any discount on 172s and they were still selling at full price. I saved myself a fortune buying an import and have still been offered top book trade in against a CTR!!!!Quote: Originally posted by adder on 08 March 2004
whats the point of buying a grey import when for less than a grand more you can have an official one if you shop around? I tell you now youll lose much more than that at resale time when the service booklet is stamped by some french/belgium/cypriot garage....

Ive got 1 ordered from motorprovider, £11695
+£300 met paint
+£198 for vehicle registrstion, 1yrs road tax (£165) and preparation
=£12193
Beat that?
Only problem is waiting for it to get "transported from the port to Sheffield", ordered it 3weeks ago n Im still waiting. Now they say thursday!
All clios are imported from "france/belgium/cyprus" anyway.
A cat1 Toad Alarm should cost you no more than £250 anyway and has more featues than any renault alarm.
Motorpoints 172 only hold a 1/2yr warranty, depending on the country of origin, MOTORPROVIDERs 182s have a 3year warranty, however whether they can come up with the goods is another story!
Heres hopin
Cup options? thats a big mistake not ordering that
I bought a MKII 172 from MotorPoint in 2001 for 12500 OTR, a saving of well over £2000 over the Official Renault price. Shopped around at UK Renault dealers and non would offer below £14000. Sold my car on Autotrader beginning of this year for £8900 with 24K miles, and at that time wasnt much cheaper than other UK 172s of the same age and mileage (around the £9000 mark). So the future value is not as low as you think it is.Quote: Originally posted by zaskar on 09 March 2004
There are a few things to bear in mind.
If you buy an import, be it with a claimed UK spec or not, the future value will, natraully, be lower than if you had a bought a UK car from a Renault dealer. Firstly, they dont appear in Cap or Glass trade guides.
That mind sound fair enough, but, i used to work in the car trade for a franchised UK dealer, and when it came to part exchanges, we simply wouldnt touch import cars. Why? Because we couldnt shift them. Punters dont go to a franchised UK dealer to buy an imported car. Of course, this may differ between dealers.
Lastly, UK spec means more than just alarm, xenons etc. Some import cars can have many more parts which differ from a UK car, including suspension mountings and gearboxes, i kid you not!
Anyway, all of these possible things for a saving of £750 - £1000? Not worth it in my opinion.
They get stock from different countries. You are best to check where the car came from first. It needs to be from an EU county to take advantage of the 3 1 year Reanult and 2 year dealer warranty. If its from Cyprus you will only get the 1 year manufacturer warranty.Quote: Originally posted by chowy on 09 March 2004
I heard somewhere that Motorpoint cars are from Cyprus and not EU cars so PAN European warranty doesnt apply and they use a third party warranty company!
Not sure if this is true with clios?????
That grand saved will pay for the insurance and a few aftermarket products, so yes, you could say people with imports/supermarket cars are laughing, laughing at the Renault dealers. and the difference when selling private the difference between imports and UK is small compared to the savings made.Quote: Originally posted by adder on 10 March 2004
Good advice D-CUP.
You guys are having a laff buying a grey when theres only a grand to be saved! Ive had four (non Renault) import cars from as far away as Japan; also Ireland and Holland. The point about saving big bucks on an import is you go direct to the foreign dealer yourself and cut out the middle man. A grey is always going to more difficult to move on and Ive heard stories of people losing a fortune on some metal; Renault particularly.
