mounting amp

has any one got any piccysof where they have mounted there amps? as the back of the seats on the Clio seem some what soft and flimsy its 1 72 , too Big to fir in the wheel arch and dont want to build a floor etc etc

if under the seat, you may need a fan or too to stop it from overheating

also how about a flase floor that only covers say 1/3 of the boot foor, or just secure a piece of mdf to boot floor (again say only 1/3) and screw it to that

or does the 172 have a spare wheel? or is it the cup that doesnt have one? if so, it could go in the well for it!

a fan to go under the seat? never ever seen anyone put a fan on an amp under the seat. ive never ever known of an amp overheating under the seat and ive seen some very big amps under seats. the only down side to installing one there is that the amp is slightly visible at times (floor mats hide em)

cups dont come with a spare, but tbh anyone that doesnt put atleast a spacesaver in there is a bit crazy

mines mounted to the wheel arch on the left side.

i took the carpet off and glued a piece of MDF to the arch with no more nails then put the carpet back over and screwed a piece of carpeted MDF to the other MDF (sandwiched the carpet) then screwed the amp to the MDF voila no holes drilled in the car.

ill try and get some pics tomorrow
 


M.C. thats sounds interesting, was thinking of something like that, please post some pics if you can.

otherwise its a pive of mdf carpeted, velcrod to the boot mat in forn of the sub-box so everything is just on the 1/4 side split of the rear bench.
 


there you go mate ignore the mess in the boot .

it aint finished yet i am thinking of making a FG sub box and i may move the amp to the other side but the amp is fine lke that had it in my focus like that for over 2 years and it never moved and when i sold it the MDF just pulled off the wheel arch with a good pull and there was no damage to the arch.

thanks for the pics, got my amp today, was thinking about also putting it under the seat, but it is really a small space under there, the height is fine, but you only have like 20cm in the recess and my amp will just fit in there (if you take out that plastic tray thingy) but dont think there is enough room for the cables to plug in,

so whos got an amp under the seat ??
 


bad idea dont put it under the seat, for one some1 will sit on it and damage it, two itll over heat like mad, it needs sufficient space around it to vent the heat off that it produces. Id keep it simple make yourself a flase floor and mount it under there with some fance or put it under the front seats, and run the cables under the carpet, if u meant the front seats anyway then i refrain my comment, but handy to know nevertheless

thats strange as ive fitted quite a few amps under seats, not once has one been damaged nor have any overheated

how can someone sit on the amp when it is mounted next to the seat subframes?? they sit on the seat dont they? ive never seen anyone sit on the floor :confused:

as for the overheating, there is plenty of ventilation around the amp (unless its huge) for adequate cooling
 


I think the guy above weas talking about the rear seats !! I always dismissed the idea about mounting inder the front seat untill I had a look under there, theres plenty of vertical room under the seat (even when the seat slides back and forth), just the floor is a little bumpy, my lightning audio fits snugly between the 2 raised bits, just concerned if there is enough room for the cables to run out, I though about raising it slightly, a little mdf under the amp then the cabe connections are above the the raised parts, anyone know what Im taking about?

maybe Ill take a pic tonight.

heres the amp under the seat, fits snuggly, as said beofre may have to raise it a little so the terminals are above th reiased bit so there is space for the wires to fit in.
