Move away from the Monaco!

  Focus
Haven't got any real pictures yet, mainly because I had alot to do over the bank holiday weekend and it's all dirty and dusty now!

But last week I sold my ruined 172 Monaco, and brought this 08 Megane 225 Cup, 22k miles, 1 owner, registered and serviced at same garage since new, absolutely immaculate.

Will upload some more pictures when it's been cleaned!

Oh I maybe over exaggerated things, was getting pretty tired so decided to move on, been craving a 225 even before I brought my 172. Didn't really want to spend a lot of money on it, so thought it best I moved on.

I do miss her though!

For me the 172 looks better but when stuff starts going they can get expensive.

Couldn't agree more, the 172 will always be a better looking car, from the front the 225 is alot nicer imo, but the back is just hideous! :rasp:

Stuff was just starting to show the signs of age on the 172, and when the cars worth £2k at a push I didn't want to start throwing big money at it - just didn't see the point.

I am pretty much the worst car cleaner in the world, I have no real interest in detailing so go easy on me! Just a wash, then polish with SRP, then some simonez tyre + plastics dressing so make the blacks look a bit more..black. Pictures taken on my SGS2.

Nice car, didn't know they did the 225 Cup with phase 2 lights and bumpers.

Thanks dude, to be honest I can't really tell the difference, still not that in with Meganes still finding out new things every day. :p

One thing bugging me though is it looks identical to a 230 R26 apart from not having Recaros.

Looks great.... I'm no pro but if you want me to give it a decent hand detail give me a shout as I have a fair few bits and no real passion to use it on mine.

Some pictures taken by a photographer at an open day at Snetterton on 20th October.

Car performed way beyond my expectations!

After day fronts needed doing really, amazed by the lack of sidewall scrubbing, but lost a few mm off the fronts (on about 2-3mm after day) so replaced with some Goodyear Eagle F1 AS2's. Highly recommended to anyone looking for new tyres! Left the ESP on all day as didn't find it intervened at all, better be safe than sorry I felt. ;)

It's a great circuit dude, although to be fair I didn't actually ever go on the old circuit so can't really comment.

Definitely be going again, as mentioned it completely blew me away with how composed it was etc (although to be fair only really driven my mates integra and my old standard 172 on track).

The new circuit is pretty much the same but with all the extra infield area, which adds to the technical parts :)
The car looks right at home there, how did you find it compared to the 172? Apart from having more grunt lol

Don't know if my 172 was really a fair comparison seeing as it was completely standard (ie not the cup). But the handling was absolutely insane, grip levels were immense. Body roll was pretty much non existent. Rob, my mate following me in his teg type r said it looked so composed and poised through the corners. I had a real issue with my 172 completely shredding the sidewalls of the tyres I was using (guess this was due to the floppy setup of the standard 172). ;)

That's cool, what upgrades is the meg running? It does look pretty composed and as you mentioned body roll pretty minimal!

You'll have to let me know when you're going next and I'll see what funds are available :)

You should of not listened to hearsay on the opentrack one I went on then!! :p

Nothing at the min completely standard, very near future though a stage 1 remap is looming. :)

nice car d4vy, i'm looking to make the same step from my Monaco to a Meg (albeit R26).

Is the difference in power delivery that much more noticeable? ie pinned in the back of your seat when the turbo spools up?

Are you on MegSport? I've been on there for about a month and quite a few on the guys appear to be having engine problems after their cars have been mapped (not sure whether its S1 or S2 mapping), still - not what you want to happen! From what i've read its something to do with the injectors over cycling and there being no inline fuel filter to stop s**t coming through - worth asking about when you get to that stage anyway :)

Thanks mate!

Difference in power delivery (as standard) is noticeable, I don't know if I'd call it pinned back in your seat quick as it's more progressive, in comparison to say an old evo etc. You will definitely notice the difference though, mostly in the power all the way through the rev range, it completely rinses my mates civic type r.

I am on megsport yeah, most of the issues people have are with the PH1 megs (before 2006 as far as I know). PH2 had alot of mechanical revisions and various other bits and bobs, different bumpers, lights etc. I know people who have been running stage 1 since they've brought their cars with little to no issues. When I eventually get mine done I will be going for the stage 2, gets uprated intercooler, different actuator etc. Speaking to the guy from tour de force, the stage 1 and 2 are still well within the engineering parameters of the engine. They aren't the best built cars as I'm sure you can appreciate being french, for example my speakers vibrate the door cards like a gooden, I need to get my fan motor sorted as that's doing all sorts of weird things! I had an issue with rocker cover leaks when I first got it, along with various other little niggles, ie window regulator, door card leaking into the car, etc, all this on a 3 year old car. :p

But the car makes up for all it's little faults by being just such a good drive, you wouldn't look back if you got one mate. :)
