MP4 Player Pissin me Off

Girlfriend put a couple of hundred songs on, came today to add some more and it wouldn't open it, it said 'Disk needs formatting' So she clicked yes, It now only shows 980mb of a possible 8GB

And I could have written better software that came with it! I guess I need to upgrade the firmware, it says its on the CD in the instructions, but I cant find it, and in the instructions it says you can either get the firmware from either the CD, which it is not, or the website...But there is no URL anywhere! I dont even have the name of the company who made it, no helpline.

Any Ideas?

Personally wouldn't touch those with a barge pole. A couple of mates bought similar if not the same from ebay, both packed up after about a month. No support for them at all, no comeback, nothing! They threw them away in the end!
Hope you get it sorted, but cheap copies are never as good as the real thing!

Put it this way, has anyone actually put any ware near 8gb of data on it?

Word is, the file that Windows looks at to see what storage capacity the device has is hacked and really there is only a 1gb card in there.

also the crystal oscillator in them is supposed to be dodgy to say the least and what fails a lot of them, but i dont know if this is true or not.

I reckon these are complete fakes, I don't think any of them are 8gb at all!

These sound just like all the other fraud players and memory cards out there claiming to be 2/4/8GB - In windows they will also show as being the size they claim, however if you try and move 2/4/8GB of data it won't all be moved because the cards use a hack to fool windows into giving the incorrect capacity.

These players mainly use either Samsung or Hynix chips for their flash RAM. These manufacturers to do not make flash chips in 4GB sizes. So the 2GB players might consist of a configuration of two 1GB chips, back to back. The problem with the MP4 knockoffs is, Apple has bought most of the larger flash RAM chips. While Apple has the technology to use larger capacities of RAM in their players, there is currently no boards or firmware on Chinese Nano knockoffs that can be configured to use more than two 1GB chips.Furthermore, these MP4 players generall all use the ACTION chipset, which can not handle capacities of nand flash greater than 2GB.
That means the most these unbranded Chinese MP4 players can have is 2GB of RAM. In order to circumvent this limitation and increase their profit lines, the shady manufacturers of these players hacked the firmware and stuck fake "4GB" or "8GB" labels on the player. Do a web search for the mympxplayer site, and you will find ample proof of this MP4 scandal and how to properly identify the true capacity of your MP4 knockoff.

TBH You need to refund those who are unhappy, and return those items back to your supplier for a refund.

hmmm...I can see this getting out of hand. Fair enough there's been a bit of a fook up but it's not Terry's fault, he got these from a supplier in place of another order which was cancelled. He never intended to even have these mp4's let alone be selling fake one's.
Oh and...

T3RRY I don't want to cast aspersions on you, I understand and don't doubt you sold these without being properly informed. But the problem is people bought these players 'safe in the knowledge' that they were getting an 8GB mp4 player for £50, now what they seem to have is a 1GB mp4 player.

So what options do you have?
