MSN download

I have downloaded a newer version of windows messenger (i have no idea which version i think its the new one) but every time i open the shortcut i have to allow the program access and vertually install it again? Is there anyway to stop this happening? It runs fine but i dont want to do this every time i open messenger? :S

Are you sure the shortcut you're running isn't a shortcut to the setup?

I wouldnt have a clue i open the icon on the computer screen could be that its not the actuall program?

:quiet: it does work like proper messenger though as my brother has got the same version on his computer? And a mate sent me the link to download it?

As above. You're almost certainly clicking on a shortcut to the setup. If you right click the icon and select properties, what does it say in "target"?

Product decription says Messenger Plus! Live setup so i am guessing its the wrong thing?

Yeah you're running the install file.

Check your start menu for Windows Live, Windows Live Messenger

The new messenger puts a shortcut to a web-based installation file on your desktop if you Save As rather then run.

When it's installed you'll have to put your own shortcut to it on by finding it in the Start Menu, right clicking and Send to Desktop.

if you want to keep having the same problem by all means keep the original shortcut

Once Windows Live Messsenger (as its called) is installed you can prob delete the WL (i think its called) setup icon form your desktop.
Or right click, then click CUT and then PASTE it somewhere (maybe in docs in a folder) in case you need to reinstall in future.

And then look in programs for windows live and Windows Live Messenger and use that

I think you can right click that and add shortcut to desktop or pin to start menu (if vista) if your Messenger icon aint there already
