Muscle Cars / USA

Had a look around on the forum, but apart from the odd muscle car appreciation thread I can't see anything on actually owning one.

So, has anyone here owned a US imported car such an older Mustang, Charger Corvette etc.?

Or could anyone point me in the direction of a UK forum or good dealer?

Seriously considering buying one (not as a daily) but want to know a lot more before taking the plunge.

Cheers

  dan's cast offs.
My lad picked a c3 up off eBay pretty cheap a few months ago.

As for importing I personally would wait a bit as the exchange isn't exactly wonderful at the mo.

A guy in my office as a 2005-ish Mustang GT. He didn't import it but, if you'd be interested, I could ask him if he knows any good sources of info.

That would be helpful mate, thanks.

I'm not looking at importing myself, more so meant in terms of cars in the UK that had been imported from the states.

Speak to Mike Lacey at Modurstang.

He's a specialist for Mustangs and American stuff, he'll know where's best to source them from.

Just asked him, he is going to send me some stuff that he's on so will post it here when he does.

You still have the S3? What's the latest with it?

I can help you import one. ;) Well with the shipping aspect anyway.

Just make sure it's over 30 years old seeing a 2005 mentioned above. 30 years old or more and you do not pay duty just 5% VAT on the purchase and shipping cost.

Yep, still got the S3, still a perfect daily for me.

As for US cars, apart from the obvious choices I've been drooling over these all week... Mercury Cougars.

I'm sure there will be plenty of info buried on pistonheads forums. I'd love a C2 Corvette but they cost nearly as much as a megane over here?.

They look and sound great but anything else is s**t with them over here. I’d still love one mind

They're a slightly stretched Mustang underneath aren't they? I always remember them being pretty shitty in Gran Turismo 2.
3 inches longer iirc. Essentially a mustang though bar the bodywork. Hard to work out there values compared to mustangs though as they're a lot less common over here.

Depends on the car though, they've always been though of as massive Yank tanks, but some of the stuff driven today is pretty hefty.

For example a 67 Mustang is roughly the same size as the Mk1 Mondeo, but a Dodge Charger is still a monster.

Fair point. No getting away from the poor build quality, mpg and handling though?
