My 1.2 16v vs 1.2 8v @ the Pod..

A vid of me and my nephew in our clios having a little race...(16v wins)

How does a 16v pull on the 8v that much?
Bad gear change?

Wish I could do something like this. :)

Nah he was pretty consistant with his times (all 20-21)
Had a few races against him and beat him easy.

So the extra 8v do make a difference! What was the time/speeds?

I was 19.0116 @ 72.36mph and he got 20.3847 @ 66.03mph another race I got..19.1914 @ 72.02mph and he got 20.3444 @ 66.10mph

Do you not think the 1.2's are the same as the RS's though, some engines are just better than others? I've gone against my friends 16v once, just on an empty A road at night from 30 up to 70 and i was just ahead. I know of a few 8v's that made quite a bit over the book figure on the rollers too, i guess its a lot down to how well its been looked after etc.

defo..have always said that..depends how the car is driven in its running in miles I think.
If a granny has been pootlining about..its gonna be slow..if its had a bit more of a thrash its gonna be faster. dont know if the ecu is sort of set to how a person drives in from the start.

Also he was out of petrol and I had 2 nuggets..full leather and them 9" rear wheels to drag.

ive driven a few different ones both 16v and 8v over the years and the 16vs are a good bit quicker as your flying thru the revs thru the gears, around town in all honesty you wont notice too much difference due to the 8v getting its power lower down the rev range, they feel the same untill about 3000/3.5k revs

Iv had a drive of my nephews 8v and thought it was a bit slower...but it is an older car.

I used to love my little 1.2 16v - it was well nippy at the lights. 172/182 would have it in the twisties though.

  53 Clio's & counting
Fair play Steph not a bad result there

last time i was there i was chatting to a chap with a 306 TD who started off in the 20's and by the end of the morning was running in the 17's and was having just as much time as people with faster cars, thats why i love RWYB's, you get to see all different types of metal

Though there will always be the select few who piss take because its not runninh super quick times, god knows why

TBH i dont think there would be much difference in performance, depends on the condition of the car i guess. Anyways i love my lil 8v. Gear changing is a big player when dragging.
I thought the only difference between the 16v and 8v is that the 16v has less strain at a higher speed, less rpm.
The 16v in the video did seem miles quicker, was it the driver or the car?

Would love to have a go myself. enjoyed that clip. :)
