fu** knows and right now i couldnt give a toss!!! ell actually i do!! wat causes that to go tits up???

^^ what BRUN said

Sticking starter motor, or a short somewhere to do starter/ignition..

On my Williams it was caused by a loose battery terminal arcing to the ignition coil.. quick reshuffle of the wires and it was fine!

Possibly!!

Mine was a loose terminal not screwed back down properly after a garage had been working on my car.

Dont know the underbonnet layout on yours tho so couldnt really advise, on 16v/Willy the battery is located right next to the part it was arcing to when I turned the key.

Even made a nice bright spark to highlight the problem!!

Could always get someone else to turn the key whilst you check it out, might get lucky and its something obvious

Otherwise a new starter motor is in order probably!!!!!!!

This happened last week to a friends car. we disconected the battery left it for an hour then connected it back up.

It started first time.

  Leon TDI

Similar thing happened to my 172.
Apparently it was something to do with an ignition timing swith that needed replacing.

Push it!

Always works!

Only 2 times thats ever failed is when the ignition coil went and that nasty time I blew the engine up!

i got the same problem but it aint the battery... is really an intermittent problem tho so seems a real pain in the arse to diagnose... therefore im not all that hopeful when it goes into renault on friday. took 10 mins of turning the key, wiggling wires round and rocking it in gear this morning to get it started! :(
