My Clio is faster than it feels, is yours?

Friends said to me before I bought my Clio that it doesn't feel fast but it is, and having driven some fast cars, tend to agree. It is no slouch though and a couple of times recently I have looked at the speedo to find I am going 10-20mph faster than I thought I was :S. Personally I put it down to the linear sound of the engine.

Please don't bother to respond with it will beat a Porsche or some other crap. Thanks.
 
Sit in a German car and floor it. Then look down at the speedo. I assure you, it will be going a lot quicker than you feel it is.

I have drilled an E46 M3 and know what you mean. I suppose I am comparing this to other hot hatches etc. The CTR felt faster, and just about any turbo car will as well. This is not a bad thing, just an observation.
 
Sit in a Bentley GT more like ;) 70mph feels like about 40!

I rarely get caught out by the clio tbh, takes too long after a ton and rattles to death.
 
My Edition 30 is daft in this respect, doesnt feel especially fast, you dont feel the gearchanges, it just piles on speed very very well ...

In fact the only thing that feels really quick about the car is the time between visits to Shell ....
 
Remember as the temperature drops the engine will operate better as oposed to warmer weather
 
i generally get what you mean. My mates type r feels faster than my car but when you look at speedo, you aint going that fast, where as in mine, and mates agree here, you dont feel like your going that quick even though your going same speed as the type r and faster in and out of corners.
 
I dont think the clio feels quick tbh. Feels quicker than a big VAG obviously but not as quick as my C2 felt or the cooper s feels. Obviously the mini is about as fast, maybe faster than the clio but the c2 was much slower.

My other car, peugeot 107 feels amazingly quick.......then you look at the speedo and you're doing 37mph. Stupid loud exhaust and engine that loves being raped ftw
 
I get this in my Clio. It's pretty easy to judge when driving normally, but when pushing it a bit, the car seems to feel slower than I am going.
 
i dont tend to feel this in mine. I usually feel its not fast enough and i have to try hard to go quick. as soon as i get in a tdi or something it feels quick with ease. i guess its due to the 172 not having all that good torque
 
Mine always felt really quick even before it was given turbo power. Yet my mates all thought it was average
Now it's completely different. They all s**t themselves every time they go anywhere in it.
Just need more boost now :evil:
 
I got a mate who has a seat leon fr and my friends all think his car is alot faster than mine. which i think it is but not as much as they make out. its the torque on the fr which makes it so much quicker feeling.
 
I once had a run with a 182 when I had my CTR and we were into 3 figures before I pulled slowly away. Having driven a 182 and a CTR, the CTR felt much faster.

Yeah, turbo cars feel a lot quicker than NA's, most of the time.
 
My Clio used to feel fast but it doesn't to me now realy. However it felt faster than a mates brand new Mini Cooper S, despite the fact the speedo's on the same road where around the same. In reaity the Mini should be a bit quicker but didn't feel it, however I don't think the auto box helped.

I also went in rexe's Scooby WRX and despite the fact it is only slightly quicker than the Clio in reality it felt far quicker.

Horses for courses I supose.
