My complaint letter to Renault

  BMW 323i Coupe
Hey guys, just thought I'd share my letter of complaint and see what you all thought.

Dear Sir/Madam

I am writing to inform you of my unhappiness with the standard of service I have received from one of your dealerships. I think it is atrocious that I can even call it a service.

I have recently had a problem with my Renault Clio, and so had to cut short a week away to travel back home so that I could have the problem seen to, and to also ensure that I would have the funds to do so.

Before going to my nearest dealership, I looked on the internet for opening times and services to make sure I could be seen. Seeing that the opening time stated 11:00 - 16:00 on a Sunday, I made the 20 mile journey expecting to be seen to. I was turned away, as the Renault Minute service was closed, and was told to come back the next morning.

So the next morning, I travelled another 20 miles to the dealership, and went to the reception of Renault Minute. I was told by a man on this desk that I had to go to the main reception of the dealership and they would book me in. I then went and he took my number and said he would phone me to arrange a booking. As I was aware that Renault Minute offered servicing without an appointment, I went back to the Renault Minute reception to ask questions.

I was given a phone number, told to ring it, where I would be put through to a call centre that would book me in. Again I could not understand this, as the service offered states that servicing is available with no appointment. Yet I was not offered this service, and had to travel around 80 miles, which not only caused an inconvenience to myself, but put my safety at risk as I felt the car was not suitable to drive, and when I asked if I should be driving the car, I was told by a member of staff that it was ok, and this was without any inspection of the car.

After making a phone call to the number provided, I was told I would have to wait until Monday 15th September, and as it was only Monday 8th September at the time of booking, I felt that this was disgraceful for a service that offers no appointment, as well as being a major inconvenience for myself.

Whilst I was seen to, I asked how much I would be looking at for the cost of a diagnostics test, and was told it would amount £82. I feel that this price is outrageous, and it made me consider alternatives as if this testing would cost that much, I would dread to think of how much any repairs would cost me.

I would like to make it aware that I am disgusted with the service provided, and that I have since sought diagnostic testing from another company who specialise in auto electrics, and for this service they provided me with quick service, a competitive price of £35, and have diagnosed the faults.

I feel outraged that a company charging £82 for this service cannot accompany it’s customers with faster service and that Renault has come across as a company that puts profit before customers.

Since writing this letter, I have received a compulsory phone call from Renault to remind me of my booking, and I was left in amazement when the person who phoned me left a message for a Mr Murray. I can understand that mistakes can be made when a booking is made over the phone, but I cannot understand how someone can confuse Gould, with the name Murray, and this further shows that customer service within this company is poor, and I feel that the standard of service needs to be addressed.

I look forward to your response on the comments raised in this letter.

Yours Faithfully

Alex Gould

tbh id say that you were a little naive to think that A) service would be open on a sunday, and B) you could have your work done without it being booked in

Good letter indeed, i think they may do something about it, writing a letter is much more assured than a phone call.

Hope you get some kind of result

i have to agree,

if u didnt know if the car was driveable then call your breakdown company to check it out. They will either tell u it is ok or tow it to renault. Plus if its an easy fix it might even get sorted by them

sorry to hear this

but ur wasting ur time sending the letter, the recordered delivery of it, ur all round trip, because all u will get back is a sorry, and a aload of c**k and bull about how they work, how the look upto there customers etc etc

What are you expecting from renault for this??

standard labour rates? £82 for a diagnostics test which takes a max of 10mins to run is a prime example of why nobody uses renault / renault minute as they're a bunch of robbing b******s.

tbh i think you'll get a letter back apologising for your inconvenience, nothing more.

You can't make 'it' aware. Other than that - okay letter but I wouldn't waste the effort. No one cares. They're in the business of selling cars, and they obviously sell as many as they need to recover engineering & line-building investment. Harsh but fair I'm afraid.

The only part of the complaint that I think really has any weight is the price of their diagnostics test to be honest.

I would say it's reasonable to expect that any service-related issue that requires work on the car would require a phone call first to book a slot, or at least ensure that they are available to carry out the work there and then.

The 'no appointment' thing sounds too good to be true - surely if they are particularly busy on a certain day, then there is no way they can just drop everything and work on your car? I think I'd rather book it in and know that it's been given the time and attention needed.

Sorry, but it all seems aout par for car dealerships in general, not just Renault. Not to say they shouldn't treat customer better with opening times and prices, etc, but it's the way the industry is.

Whats wrong with using the phone ?? :S

Biggest part of your problem here me thinks

Disagree, letters are better as they usually get a first hand response rather than being sherked off to every Tom, Dick and Harry.

TBH if you phoned they'd probably ask you to put it in writing anyway!

But then everyone to their own.

No i mean phone call when he first had the initial problem with the car instead of looking online and phone call when he went to book the car in

Good letter but they will just pay the usual lip service to customers then be on their way. I agree with the point about the service not being booked but as Alex pointed out if this is a service they advertise - why should he feel the need to ring and book?

tbh the letter just screams out im a kid that has no knowlege of the rear world and how it works, im sure thats not the care but thats how it sounds

Harsh Laura. He's just trying to make a point. If everyone expect s**t all the time the time from everyone the world would be evn more shitty than it is. Whats wrong with wanting a decent service for a fair price?

EDIT: he's also the same age as you

  AMV8, Mk1 Golf
its a car garrage... they are not going to be open on a sunday.. everyone knows that. thats just how it is

and to expect to have the car worked on straight away again isnt really ever going to happen anywhere.

i agree that diagnostic prices are stupid and thats the only part i agree with

im not saying he is a kid or anything.. thats just how it reads

Fair enough and i see where your coming from. But the point i think is they advertise for Sundays and a no appointment service so why should he expect anything else?

I know it seems crazy that they would open sunday but if they say so then take advantage i say.

  AMV8, Mk1 Golf
probably a service attached to a dealership, car sales will be open on a sunday but service wont be, the website was probably just an overall opening time for sales

My time is charged at £150 / hour or part thereof.
Just because a job only takes 10 mins wouldnt stop it from being charged as a complete hour. That standard in most businesses

i would LOL if they replied and addressed the letter to :

Mr Murray...

However, I hope you get it sorted. It is a major ball ache when you can't get the service you want.

£150 per hour? What do you do for a living?!

I've known hitmen charge less!

Renault minute service without appointment = the customer will be spoken to immediately, this means you walk in, chap talks to you, NOT your car will be looked at without an appointment!! s**t i know!

I have to agree with all of your comments Laura.
It would have been Sales that would be open on a Sunday, service isn't as they don't get a parts delivery, they are only open until midday in most cases on a Saturday and even then stick to MOT's and routine servicing.
How are they meant to pre-pick parts if you haven't book?
£85 is an hours labour, the standard diag fee.

I want them to know I'm unhappy. I don't expect much in terms of a response, but the only way to make a difference is to stand up and be counted.

I agree completely.

lol! good luck mate, you wont hear F all from them though!

That's why I'm sending recorded delivery, because if I don't get a reply, I'll kick up a bigger fuss about it.

Good letter but they will just pay the usual lip service to customers then be on their way. I agree with the point about the service not being booked but as Alex pointed out if this is a service they advertise - why should he feel the need to ring and book?

That's why I didn't phone.

On their website they show their open times as:

OPENING TIMES
Mon - Fri
09:00AM–07:00PM
Sat
09:00AM–05:00PM
Sun
11:00AM–04:00PM

They make no mention of what parts will be open and what will be closed, and I know that where some places would be closed on a Sunday, chances are if one part of something is, then there's a chance the rest may be.

probably a service attached to a dealership, car sales will be open on a sunday but service wont be, the website was probably just an overall opening time for sales

That's the case, which shows that they've made a poor effort because it is too easy to be misconstrude into something it's not.

have you stated what dealershp it was?

Yeah, I told them its Renault Cardiff.

i would LOL if they replied and addressed the letter to :

Haha. :D

Renault claim:

www.renault.co.uk said:
At Renault Minute Fast Fit Centres we offer immediate attention without the need for an appointment, to all makes and age of vehicle. We are dedicated to those jobs that can be carried out in a fast-fit environment and after any work is carried out, we complete a free 25-point safety check (Fluid level, signal, safety and operational checks) on your vehicle

If they are going to advertise a facility in which no appointment is needed, they should accomodate this, but they turned me away.

  Mondeo TDCI 130
^ lol, BUT, it doesnt work like that! trust me, i worked in one for 5 years! you would get a 25point check straight away! Thats about it, your problem wouldnt qualify imo!! Its c**k i know!!

renault minute is for things like tyre change, battery change quick oil service, not to diagnose a fault with the car.

As far as I'm concerned from their advertisement of it, when they offer servicing and the likes, it doesn't make it appear that they wouldn't offer it.

Nothing to lose by sending it. If you don't complain, they get away with it and will continue to shaft people. Good on you for trying, even if the outcome is not what you expect.

good luck with it and that but tbh being renault i very much doubt you will have a very helpful reply .
