My DIY IK (Temp Bodge Warning)

  BMW M135i
Standard Engine Bay :

Right ever since getting the car I noticed that as the air filter is at the back of the engine then the plenum on the side of the engine is only there for noise damping, a quick drive with the plenum removed confirmed this as a mucho cool noise was produced :).

The problem was that as the airbox entry was at the back of the bay it was only ever going to suck hot air in, so when I saw some ducting floating around I had an idea and this is the result :

Yep, thats electrical tape sealing it because the problem is the airbox entry is oval and the duct is round and when squashed to shape doesn't perfectly fit over it, so thats sealing it.

Yes it is possibly the most rough thing i've ever seen but it was only a test to see if it would work which it does, if I could find a way to sort out the problem of the oval airbox then it wouldn't look too bad but I can't think of anything as of yet.

But the noise is ace, people actually turn around when I put my foot down at low speeds , need to think of something permanent though because this noise needs to be a permanent fixture.

lol, sexy i did this at one point! i'm thinking of a 1.6 as my next jump. probably buy one and just transfer all my cars stuff onto it :p people would still think it was a 1.2 hehehehehe are they quick?

  BMW M135i
It went from a 1.2 to this and its a rocketship in comparison, imo its a good warm hatch that doesn't really try to be one.
Its quick for the market it placed in but no one else thinks its anything other than a 1.2 because its exactly the same bar the side badges so theres plenty of fun to be had there.
So far my kill list extends to a Fiesta Si 16v, Civic Sport 1.6 and a Ph2 VTR although the vtr was closer than the others probably due to the fact it weights as much as a crisp packet. And theres the obvisious chavs in corsas etc that think its a 1.2.

i'd get the 1.2 8v door badges for the piss take :D i may have to drive one and see what ehy're like

No the power cables not burnt, took the picture with me phone and its just how its come out.

The filters still there its at the back, its just the plenum i've removed which is essentially an empty box so it won't get crap in the engine.

The other end of the pipe goes to the standard intake location behind the headlight.

What you have removed is called the Resenator Box.

You've done exactly what I have but i'm currently working on a more perminate solution.

Yeh i'm gonna sort something more permanent out when I can think of something, its off now anyway was just a trial to see if it would work.

What have you come up with in the way of a more permanent solution if you don't mind me asking ?

when finished will be alot like the K-Tec RamCharger but with a closed induction filter on the end of it.

Edit: Abit like Dink's pic but with the filter in a differnt place

Will have to keep my eye out sounds interesting.

Yeh will look a lot better when I sort it out properly, have got hold of a spare plenum from a scrappy and am going to butcher that for the oval connector part of it and get some decent caf ducting and it should take a more permanent less badgers arse rough look.
