My Golf GTI

Update:

Car has been in the body shop for the colour coding of the rear bumper.

Finishes the rear end off and looks a lot better than the plastic grey colour as standard.

Edition 30 rear lights next on the list I think...

Very nice touch. I'm too stingy to pay for it even though I know it would make a great difference.

Very good price, I almost went ahead with it about 18 months ago but quote was near £300 so told them no thank you!

Fair play for doing it on a black car, small details matter!

£300! That's crazy price.

For the sake of £120 it's hard not to get it done, although yeah on a black car it's not a huge impact but still worth it.

My old Tornado Red GTI looked a lot better with it done...

This picture highlights, in the direct sun, how s**t the plastic rear bumper looks:

I also spent half an hour with some leather conditioner product.

It's gone from a shiny used look:

To a nice Matt finish, really looks new:

Rear CC looks soo much better, loving this.

Going to look at a black MK5 Gti tomorrow night. I'm hoping it's a good one.

I kinda like my plastic. Harps back to the older Golfs, plus it isnt faded. Still looks epic painted!

Nah plastic looks s**t Jason, was a terrible idea. The ED30 looks like a different age to the the Gti.

Yeah god knows why they thought not colour coding the rear bumper on one of the two "flag ship" models made sense.

Chuffed I had it done and for £120 you can't go wrong.

Been eyeing up some Ed30 rear lights for a few days now.

Must resist!

I really like what you're doing with this motor. Proper car care and modification. It looks so much better it's unreal, and my favourite bit is that people will look and think "those golfs are really f**king nice", but not quite be sure why yours looks so good.

The rear colour coding really does transform the boring tdi mile munching arse end into something that actually looks the part. It never looked right on the gti having none painted trim.

Basically this.

I was achieving the same results with mine but it's going in Saturday. :-(

Bumper is a massive improvement, and great work on the wheel :)

Looking good this Matt!

Thanks Rob, great comments :)

I do like these. How much can you get a decent one for ?

You can get early, low spec high milers for £6k but for a nicer one you obviously have to pay more.

For reference I paid more then 8 but less than 9.

Cheers Mike, the Meg's leather restorer is great stuf!!

2 I've seen this week and 2 I didn't buy :( Desperate now lol.

6k will get you a 05/06 80k/90k
7k will get you 06/07/ 70k/80k
8k will get you 06/07 60k/70k
9k will get you 07/08 ~60k

Price difference is mental.

First one I saw was 6.5k 05 on 70k. Had paintwork done so never know extend of accident, was ex-lease, well looked after needed 2 tyres. Sold for 6k, I offered 5.5k.

One I looked at tonight was 55 on 90k. Again had paintwork, missed a service, although advertised as FSH  !! and needed 4 tyres. Offered 4.5k, lol. Will probably sell for 5k though.

They vary massively.

Yeah Matt, have you also checked prices in the past month or so? I can probably sell mine for a bit more than I paid for it right now. Summer seems to bump the price up, I'll remember that.

Also, what leather car stuff was it you used on the Wheel? I wants me some of that.

Not really looked at prices as ill be keeping it untill probably next year.

A remap in a few months will keep me interested in the car I'm sure ;)

Also the leather product is Meguiars Gold Class Leather Cleaner and Conditioner.

It's amazing stuff. My wheel looks brand new (the pictures don't show it at all)

I'm considering selling the Mrs mk5 gti

Its Black
2006/06
3 dr
Standard car on 17's
She is the 2nd owner
63k but will rise as in daily use
Serviced, mot'd and taxed last week
Only advisories were tyres which ideally wants all 4 replacing
2 new front wings done by vw under warranty (common issue)
Coil packs done by vw under warranty (again a common recall)
All 4 wheels refurbed and unmarked.

Make me an offer?

Since I have had the rear colour-coded I haven't had chance to get some proper pictures.

So I gave it a quick clean yesterday and took a few.

So thought I would do abit of a running cost update since buying the car at the end of 2012.

Two Michelin Pilot Sport tyres: £260
New Diverter Valve: £35 approx
Full Service: £250
Cambelt and Waterpump £400 - done today
Rear discs and pads: £130 (fitted) - done today
New rear brake calliper: £120 (fitted) - done today
Tax: £145 approx (6 months)
Insurance (12 months): £600 approx
MPG average: 25mpg in town day to day / 40mpg on the motorway
Rear bumper colour coding: £120 approx
MTEC headlights: £15 approx
GTI seat inserts: £5 eBay

Boring update really but it gives people a rough idea of running costs day to day.

You paid a fair bit more on a couple things compared to me!

I paid £115 per corner for my Goodyear F1s fitted at HiQ
Full Service - £200 (Midland VW)
Cambelt and Waterpump - £310 (Midland VW)

I thought it was cheaper up north!

DB.

  BMW 440i
Wow! I didn't even question the Solihull VW as I knew they would be expensive. I just looked for the reccommended Midlands places for cambelt changes on the Mk5gti forum!

I imagine brakes will be my next spend on the car, that and a new drop link! I like (and clearly you do to) everything to be perfect on it haha!

My next expense is tax (again). The exhaust is the only mod I've done and I feel no need to do anything else so far. This is nearly the longest I've owned a car! LOL
