The exhaust manifold leaves the engine block in four pipes then reduces to two then finally into one to meet the exhaust

Standard manifolds are generally 4-1 which is more restrictive so the 4-2-1 is beneficial for performance generally due to improved torque

Same difference between the 172's and 182's except they're factory fitted manifolds
