My iMac is dying ...

Karen, after having 3 faulty units I'd seriously consder asking for a full refund and getting something different

3rd

I'm looking at getting a new MAc Pro but i'm gonna hang on for a bit and see if they hold up any better. i've heard of a few issues with the mac books too so think i'll wait til nearer the end of the year.

The mac pro has different processors though i think.

Slightly off topic but your boobs look really good in that pic, lol

My Macbook Pro is absolutly fine so far! (touch wood).

I havn't heard of many issues with the iMac at all!

I think sometimes whent hey overheat, they shut themselves down.. Maybe your processor is overheating, shutting down, rebooting.. still overheating so its shutting down again ?

It's been switched off since lunchtime though, the problem was when I first switched it back on - seems to have settled a bit now though. It also did it once this morning but I gave it the benefit of the doubt at the time. Now, however...

Thank you Spirez!

Daz - I seem to have had my fair share lol.

Roy - easier said than done - Apple have awful customer service...

Did something similar happen before?

No previous 2 Macs had total hard drive failure on the first one and the second one kept crackling and they said it was some sort of hardware failure ...

I looked at them, you dont even get much for your money. just a pretty laptop

Spec an identical spec laptop for the price of a normal Macbook..

You'll find they are quite cheap.

Oh no not again. Karen i think your better off changing your mac to another model, i have a old skool imac [the dome one] and it hasn't put a foot wrong in 3 years, i think your problem stems from the newer imacs not having fans and it's probably overheating.

I havent had a problem with either my Intel Mac Mini or Intel Mac Book.

It could be overheating Karen even it has been left off for a while, if a heatsink isnt seated properly then it will overheat VERY quickly i.e within a few mins.

I would give Apple a ring and see what they say, I would imagine that if there were any quirks they would be ironed out now and your replacement would run solid as a rock.

Dont give up as the previous 2 you had were only hard drives, which can happen to any computer be it PC or Mac.

Search google for imac and overheating. if there is a known issue this usually kicks it up!

mac = crap

YAWN how many macs have you owned

My old Power PC MAc Mini U used without one hardware/software hiccup in over a year still carrying on strong with a mate who owns it now

My intel mac mini and Mac Book both have been running fine and no hiccups

So yeah real s**t

I've said this before, anything with an apple logo on it will cost more, perform badly and break. The only thing in their favour is they're now faster, although why they are Intel based i just dont know, Apple has always screamed hysterically how much faster the power PC chip was.

I got hold of an old Imac from work, i use it to prop the bog door open.

Typical comments i expect from the mac haters on here. Nothing contructive to say just sign in type some abuse and leave the thread. Must be something about the mentality of PC owners

I'm surprised your mac stayed off its arse long enough for you to type that actaully.

Give yourself a round of applause.

Dont worry Loony, hes just bitter because he cant afford a mac because he paid all that extra money for a Trophy over a 182 just because its red! ;)

Right, it's taken nearly 1.5 hours to get it booted up tonight by literally keep switching off and rebooting... Problem seems to be when I first switch it on after it being off for a while - any more ideas??

I guess it's gonna have to go into Apple but I will have a word with Customer Services tomorrow... I am SO fucked off.

Macs are over priced, and under perform.

At least if something breaks in a PC u can pop into town and pick up a replacement part. Try doing that with a mac.

I disagree, I sent my ipod back for repair for a cracked screen and it was with me within a week.

You havent had to endure Indian tech help obviously lol. Then Irish customer services who refused to give me a new Mac becuase I was about a day or two over the 14 day period both times, I spent up to 1.5 hours on the phone one day.

Loki - sorry hadnt noticed your reply, I thought I'd posted but it may have been in another thread. Someone on the Apple forum helped me - I had to reinstall the RAM and it worked :)
