My iPod installation

  Renaultsport Mégane R26
Hi there,

Just thought i'd put this up incase anyone is wondering what the best way to connect an iPod to Pioneer stereo is.

Pioneer CD-IB100 (iPod adapter) installed underneath the centre console out of sight out of mind:

Pioneer DEH-P6400R (CD Tuner) - Adapter is compatible with all Pioneer headunits which feature IP-BUS connectivity (virtually all models from last 4/5 years):

Pioneer TS-C1300R (Component Speakers):

iPod is controlled (fully) from the headunit itself [playlists/artists/albums/songs/etc can all be selected] and the iPod charges its batteries whenever it is connected. Cable runs from CD-IB100 through into the glovebox where the iPod lives these days:

As you'd expect the sound quality is perfect (due to the hardwire connection) and the upgraded speakers really give a nice tight bassline with good treble.

Here's the car itself:

Opinions welcome - Hope this helps!

Very nice, was going to post up and ask the easiest way to do this, can you not get H/U that you plug iPods straight in to or will I need all that stuff?? Like the last pic of you driving over the iPod by the way, didn't think they were that hardy!!

Was considering the CD-IB100 in the summer for my AVIC-X1 but never got round to it, ended up just using a 3.5mm jack to 2 RCA (phonos) and switching to AV input which allows me to get sound on the move but not video.

Might get round to installing one some time, would be nice to have the charging facility and HU control over the ipod and also the advantage of being able to hide it in the glove box.

The ipod at the moment when being used with the 3.5mm jack cable in the headphone socket just gets shoved in the ash tray perfect fit for the ipod mini :)

Not bad. Was going to install mine. Sadly I'm too much of an audiophile now to even consider mp3's in my car - lol. Tis a useful idea though, very handy for long trips

One would argue that audiophile and in car are really mutually exclusive given the appalling acoustic properties of a car's passenger cabin, and the fact that one doesn't even sit correctly in relation to the speakers to experience the full stereo sound field.

Unless one is travelling in a Maybach or Rolls Royce again the suggestion would be that the road noise transmitted into the cabin would put paid to any claims of audiophile hi-fi.

If you can pick out the difference between an original CD and a 256kbps 48KHz MP3 over the top of all the other noises prevelent in a Clio then you have considerably better ears than my good self....
