Grab a selection of the screen and copy to buffer or straight to a file (with no additional software)? Yes

How do you do that? I didn't realise you could, cos it would really help me out if it's possible.

As for ignorance, aren't you the guy who thought pngs didn't work in Internet Explorer? A fair mistake to make if you're uninformed I guess. Just don't give up the day job for a career in web development! ;)

8bit PNG's will retain their transparency in explorer - 24bit ones wont.

I really hope you're not a web developer either.

If you mean 24bit with 8bit alpha transparancy, then it isn't supported below IE7 unless you employ the proprietary DXImageTransform filter.

If you feed your CSS to IE using conditional comments then it will still validate too.

Other IE problems only affect older versions - varying incompatibility in IE3 and earlier and embedded metadata causing problems with IE4.

I am a web dev, and a damn good one too ;)

I've already answered this question. You should stop rushing to try get a message on here to try show others mistakes, it makes you look idiotic.

As for the PNGs I didn't reply as I couldn't be arsed going through google to find the information that I already know, stating it's a bad idea to use anything above an 8-bit PNG. But if you want to think you're correct go ahead :approve:. You should try google one day, it's a good resource.

In my experience anyone with that much of an attitude isn't actually any good at what they do. But if you're mum tells you you're a good developer, then that's good enough for me. I'm glad I don't work with you, I'm lucky in the fact my colleagues are very down-to-earth, and don't believe in their own hype just because they can make JavaScript alert boxes with the words 'Hello World!'.

Ok, fair point, but my defense mechanisms are up because a) you're slating without reason my computer of choice, and b) you're personally insulting me by stating "designers are stupid" or however it was phrased.

Im my experience there are two types of people who claim to be good, those that aren't (as you suggest) and those that are and have the confidence in their work to get them into the jobs they want to be in and have sites to clearly exhibit the skills they have.

I believe I fall into the latter category, and obviously I'm not going to claim this without proof, so here's my portfolio www.expure.com

There's another site which isn't finished yet but is technically better than I've done before. This is the most complete page: http://www.cliomods.com/styling/fittingrecaros/

I apologise for being petty, I get like that sometimes when I see things I like being slagged off for what I consider to be invalid reasons. Life's to short to be arguing behind a keyboard so I'll just finish by saying that I believe you should use whatever OS you like, regardless of what others think, and I hope you enjoy your work as much as I do :)

To be fair to 172.com, he didn't call designers stupid - i did, BUT i was refering to graphic designers, i never even mentioned web designers and if you'd actually read what was said rather than reading what you wanted to you'd have realised this.
