My New Toy!!!!

  1998 BMW e46 323i
I have been having trouble with my OEM HU receiving good reception for some time now, and well, had had enough!

Bought myself a SONY DAB Unit, and today installed my roof mounted aerial. The stick on to window job that came with the unit was fine to be honest, but I didn't like the look of it and it woudn't work well on the front window or rear. But if you're interested in insatalling one of these, you need an extension for the aerial cable!

With some help from Has (nice one fella) I managed to figure out the aerial needed a +12v feed, and fortunately the Clio's OEM aerial has one too. "Which was nice".

So anyway, here around the Northwest I've found the DAB reception great, but the ensemble system difficult to tune into. DAB is weird.

Here's what it looks like:

Sounds great, and at 135 notes (with sticky on aerial) a bargain ;)

I'm Aigburth fella. originally Waterloo. You?

I've resisted the urge to change the HU for so long now. Miss the steering wheel controls tho!

Wow i'm pretty much the same area mate! I live just off Aigburth road in Grassendale. I'm always on the look out for 172/182's in the area haven't seen one yet though!

The steering wheel controls are nice to have must admit but that headunit you got there looks the business.

what car you got the head unit in and do you live in an area with otherwise good dab coverage?

the windscreen in the clio can prohibit reception.

i got aerial from lowcostcaraudio do a google search. £52 delivered which aint cheap. 1.5HRS it took me to fit it.

am i right in thinking you got the jvc hal2, the combined 1. did you run the dab lead though the head lining or did you send it down the side of the car.

combined aerial yeah. only prob is the analogue connections don't match.

i ran it down the pillar and the side of the rear bench, then under the driver's seat to centre console. would never know it was there.

reason why i asked about the model you own and where you live is that i found the reception with the sticky on aerial ok. but that was on the rear side window in the NW of England.

however the unit's interface isn't great, and makes dab tuning strange. i think when you search it searches for stations in the same ensemble or multiplex... but whatever it does it doesn't search all stations.

the only thing that i dont like about is when it changes from dab to fm/am by it self by time its done it youve missed the song. took me a while 2 find out how 2 stop it.
