My partial colour coding completed

why would you not get the bump strips done. i dont quite understand?

john where was that pic, looks like kirkton campus where all the theiving two bit gypos were last month.

  Octavia VRS
I thnik because John thinks it might be a bit too much mate. The strips break it up a bit.
I remembr seeing the gypos at Kirkton Campus when taking the other half to her work!

In my opinion, it would look much better being done totally, but then thats the things with opinions, they differ! :)

POW_Clio, they were wild huh? Horses and rubbish everywhere. See how there is big concrete blocks at the entrance to the unoccupied office buildings, this guy told me the gypos come along, rap a chain round them and then tow them out the way. Chancers!

  Golf GTI 1.8T
I prefer it with the black a bit, does break it up, also paints known to flake off those bump strips after a while iirc

Ali and Scott- Get tae **** ya couple of pooftahs!

Cheers Rob and Woodentop.

Malky, POW hit the nail on the head. I thought with my colour a bit of black would contrast nicely with it but if it was black or silver think I would get it all done. The shot was actually done in my street! But I swear it was at about 20mph, I just really threw it round to look a bit better!
Never realised the gypos had been back, they always ****ing wreck that area.

looks mint mate, it looks soo much better with the black bump strips, good lad not wanting to colour code them.

its weird how they wheels suit ur car so much, they dont seem to suit the Ph2 clio like mine, they suit the Ph3 style wheels more (like mine has) but they look brilliant on ur car. love that action shot :D

John I want to get my spoiler, handles and lock done now. Did they have to take the do handles of do you know? I really dont want my door cards coming off again, so much work getting them to fit snug last time. Also how much did it come to in the end??

Well I bought some spare handles to get painted cos I couldnt be without my car. Its a better finish if you take them off anyway cos it saves masking up. For all that I had done it cost me £90 but I took off everything and refitted it too. I do want to get my boot lock done soon so can you let me know what you get quoted for that? Gonna see about getting a spare for that too! But first I need to sell my basic spoiler, handles and mirrors that I bought for this project!

  Golf GTI 1.8T
I might have the handles off you, and guess what, I've got a boot lock too, just remembered. Previous owner bought a whole boot from a breakers cheaper than getting the rear window replace so had left it in with the spare wheel. Found it when I changed my interior.

Na its just the bog standard strip that I bought to fill the holes whilst mine was off!
Handles are in perfect nick and I believe brand new go for £30+ so pm him me an offer based on that info! (not expecting £30 btw!)

Might get that bootlock off you after you've used it! Let me know.
Cheers

John, the lock ive got in atm is the one that came with the boot so my key doesnt work with it, the one thats ment to work with it isnt as clean, so what I might do is make sure that works, get it colour coded then swap it for the other one and will have that free. How about a swap for the handles?

Yeah so long as it actually works and lets me open the boot then that sounds fair to me. TBH I dont know if my boot lock even works!! Never tried to use it in over 2 years-i love central locking!

Getting the boot lock painted and i think it will finish it off, well finished till you get it de-locked, and on coilovers+ soem turnis and maybe a 172 lump. ;)

You know it makes sense my son!

  Golf GTI 1.8T
Ok John I'll make sure my orignal one works, the one in there now is fine other wise I wouldnt be able to use it. Love the CL too!

lol its allowed when your just home from the pub! Slight typo though-should've been de-dinged! Have you seen my doors? Im sure the first owner parked in the spaces for trolleys!

  Golf GTI 1.8T
right just checked the lock, mine works fine. Would you be able to send them to me before I send you the lock as I would need to get both colour coded then swap and Id have the lock spare. Wont be just yet because I've got to try find a body shop and get some quotes, so hang on to those handles for me.

  Golf GTI 1.8T
Ok cheers John, will let you know when I'm ready for them. How easy is it to change the handles and get the spoiler off, lock looks easy peasy!

The spolier is a piece of piss! 6 screws and 3 clips that you need to pull off, needs a little bit of strength but as long as the screws are undone it'll come off. For the handles you need to take off the door cards and then unclip the rod and undo the 2 10mm bolts. Take a note of what postion the rod is in teh handle otherwise it will mess up your central locking. Do you know how to take the doorcard off?

  Golf GTI 1.8T
yeah ive done that a few times, when changing my interior. There just a bit fiddly and annoying because I've had to extend my wiring to reach the window switches in the 172 door cards, hopefully it will go back the same. Will try a few places this week. What did you mean by you need to buy 2 keys?

Djw John

Yeah I had to do the same with the wiring! Are you stalking me?!! ;) My immobiliser is playing up and its cos both keys are faulty, partly my fault for not getting one fixed when it started to play up a bit-just made it the spare! But now the other one is doing the same and its gonna cost £209-great!

  Golf GTI 1.8T
Yes I am stalking you!! hahaha. What did you fit, the leather/alacantara ones? I had to through crimp nearly every wire, it was a b*****d! Wth the lock, are you going to swap them over, then get your original one sprayed and then swap them back??

Mitch yeah the mk1 172 interior from a rolled 172, full thing, seats, doorcards, steering wheel and pedals are arriving any day now. Had it in for a year and a half and would not change it for any other interior! Yeah thats exactly what im gonna do, saves my car being off the road!
Well if I come into a bit of money again Dave I might do it but at the moment there is just nothing spare to do it!

  Golf GTI 1.8T
Well in that case I will send you the one with the front that isnt in the best condition, that way you can have your good one done and so can I, sound ok? I've got the 172 exclusive leather and door cards been in for about 2 months now and I love it. It goes really well with my car and yours must look great because your cars a darker colour. Might have to look into getting a 172 steering wheel, not sure what they actually look like though.

Thats a 172 interior, Ive got the same wheel, pedals arriving soon, on the look out for a cheap gear knob from one but dont think im gonna do teh silver bit around the stereo and vents, apart from that its identical!
Yeah send me that lock, its cool with me, so long as i can still open the boot!

  Golf GTI 1.8T
Im not that bothered about the sterring wheel really, but like the silver stereo surround and the knob. how easy will it to be change the pedals? Will let you know when I'm ready for those handles then I will get it all done and send you the lock. Suprised your mirrors werent already colour coded, all the 's' models I've seen have been. Not sure wether to go for the fog surrounds too, think it works with your colour better. Cheers

The silver surround is a complete b**ch to fit, many folk told me it was impossible! Should be easy enough cos the pedals are still attached to the arms. My mirrors were colour coded but when I bought it the previous owner had sanded down the passenger side and then never painted it! So just got them both done cos it cost hardly any more. I may have a picture of Toms old car that was silver with colour coded fogs. Will upload it if i find it. Just pm me or whatever when your ready for them.

Yeah that would be good to see a pic. How can you get the surround off then? How much did you pay for everything, need a figure to go on.

Nothings impossible if it was put together then it can be taken apart.

Yeah I know but I think it was a case of taking every single bit of the dash off and getting a brand new silver bit cos the way reno make their sh*tty clips! So more trouble than its worth cos Im not convinced I like it!

The cost of what? The painting or interior?

Found a couple of pics ot Toms old car

John whilst your car is getting smarted and smarter, i fear you'll regret it soon...I spent far to much on my 1.2 and it actually makes me sik from what in wasted. Don't go down the same road. Best bet is saving for a 172/Valver...Much more fun and stunning as std..
Dave's going on the rite approach tho...imo tho, no offence intended.

  Octavia VRS
I can see yor point Ali and agree up to a point. However, I don't think John is daft enough to spend a hell of a lot on his car. Like me, I think he is just trying to do subtle changes that can make all the difference although I don't know how much his 172 interior was! I totally agree that there is no point spending £000s on a 1.2/1.4
