My Silver MK3 TCE Progress Thread

Well I thought it is about time I started my progress thread as I'm about to make some big changes. So far I have spent time toning the car down from what a previous owner had done to it, but now is the time where i get to do what i want :)

So this is how it looked when i bought it, I thought it had potential, but needed to get rid of a few things before i started modding it.

First thing I did was remove the dump-valve the guy had in it (which sounded stupid).

Then debadged the boot to make it a tad cleaner.

Then I was at this stage. The exhaust was the next thing I wanted to change. He had fitted a full custom stainless system which tbf does sound nice, but for some reason he stuck two massive tips poking out from under the bumper, which just looked like an out of place bodge. I also wanted to get the colour coding done so i removed the trim and sent it off to the sprayers.

So went to a specialist and got the exhaust reshaped and hidden behind the bumper so it can't be seen, which made it look tons better.


I attempted to fix the lights next and tried everything in my power to get the tint spray off.....but I failed and it looked even sh*ter than they do in that pic. So I purchased some originals of a breaking mk3 on ebay and they turned up.......SMASHED.

LOL then I was at an all time low. Waiting for lights to arrive and having a mucky duct tape fail of a clio with the repeaters hanging off :/ .........got a lot of attention with this look.

So after messing about sending stuff back and losing out on money I went to Renparts to get my rear lights and they (Josh/Kat) were quality and got me the stuff sent out quickly so I could pop them on.

A week later.....Some good news! my trims were ready to pick up and the finish and coding was perfect! I was proper ecstatic :)

and yeah....personally i think it looks respectable now (still unsure about tints but they aren't crucial atm).....its certainly lost its chav element.

Now in the next two month I'm shall (if I'm lucky) be getting my AP coilovers, RS Grille and a new set of shoes. Still looking for the wheels atm but got my eyes on some OZ Supperleggeras in anthracite and some Renault Turinis (from the 172 i think) also in anthracite.

Btw sorry they are all crappy iPhone pics but.....it hasn't been in the right condition to make a song and dance about getting nice pics for it :p will keep you updated

Miles better now! Personally imo the tints are just a bit too dark but like you said they weren't crucial and you've done the more important stuff .. Keep it updated :)

Yeah tell me about it bud, the ones on the expression model are shocking....they are 15's but look even small because of them massive tyre walls

@ Essex - Nah not too difficult mate, having two people helps though as one can pull the trim while the other pushes the clips with a screwdriver....just be careful with the paint. The ones one the side, towards the rear, you have to go inside the speaker compartment and push the clips out.

@Geordie - Nah bud, live down in east midlands :)

Thanks lads, was a sigh of relief getting some of that crap changed...will keep you updated in the next few weeks...should start to get it looking good :)

Got em for 400 plus tyres off a chap from here. Proper nice bloke. Cant wait to get them on, just waiting for coilys so i can get them tracked/balanced at the same time :) hows yours coming along essex?

Nice, yeah good mate. Someone bought me a Air Freshener for Xmas so haha thats the only thing thats changed Lol Can't wait tho, as soon as I get the RS Grille Im putting in on straight away!! :)

Yeah same, my brother has bought me either rs grill or team heko wind deflector for xmas so im happy! Looking to wrap diamonds next and get coilys once i manage to get my exhaust sorted :/ sigh

Yeah ive been having a browse about for spacers. Just pricing up atm, wont know what i need till i get the wheels and coilys sorted but.....another expense :/ tbh im not too fussed as long as it looks smart at the end :) will keep it updated, trying to get my gf to put some money in for the coilys ;)

Nice mate, they make the front end stand out way more :) see u got the new alloys as well! Just need to drop now and it will be sweet :)

Ta mate, need to find out if i still have my job after xmas period then if i do im just gonna go and buy the coils. Get it over and done with

Silver visions take about 30 seconds a side to fit, as for the h7's not a clue, I was considering these bulbs as well, put up some pics of how they look. Also pretty sure I read somewhere you can just put your hand up through where the arch lining is if you CBa to take the bumper off, don't hold me too it though

Yeah, up through the arch liner will be my first plan tomorrow. Yeah will pop picks up tomorrow mate, not expecting HID quality but hoping they will be a little whiter and have a better strength of light. Silvervisions will make a difference though :)

Right.....been a busyish day today with the car which is good.

First thing I did was to install my new H7 Phillips blue vision dipped beam bulbs, sidelights and silver visions. Will put up a photo once it gets dark....doubt the light will be that white, but the field of vision will have definitely got better.

The next thing i wanted to do was to paint my callipers as the previous owner had them blue (for some reason) and they were covered in brake dust and rust. (See Below)

PS Don't take the p*ss!

So took the wheel off and spent a while with a wire brush cleaning it all down and painted it silver (with Hammerite Smooth). Was very happy with the finish but wanted to see what it looked like with my new wheels on so I just offered them up to it and was well happy to see how it looked.

So yeah, can't wait to get the coilys and the wheels on, should have it looking much better by then :)
