Myles's clio project

  Clio 2002
the weekend was not a constructive as id hoped. i only got 50% done of what i planned to. the good news is that i now have a nearly whole new interior the reason being i did not have the torx T50 to remove the upper half of the rear seats! i have ordered one and will get it done this week. its a simple job if you have the right kit!Anyway ill show you the positives! As i had lots to do and not heaps of time my dad stepped up to help which was a bonus as he is clued up and has a shed load of tools!

Day 1

I started with the door cards to give any last charge left in the battery to die before i started playing with the electrics under the seats

I was pleased at how simple the job was, it simply just popped off after undoing the screws and the new sports panel clipped straight on

In

Out

door panel removed L.jpg

Was great to see this horrible criss cross interior ripped out!

Rip out.jpg

Next we fitted the rear bottoms as i didnt have the torx T50 to remove the back rests from the body

rear bottoms in.jpg

The day was now in full swing with the car jacked up, all the old crap

progress.jpg

The nuts towards the center were difficult to remove

Passenger ejected

passenger out.jpg

The fronts finally in!

passenger and driver in.jpg

I am really please with the difference the interior has made. the only hitch that we hit was the wiring from my original seats did not simply plug in to the sports seats! airbags, seatbelt, etc.

if anyone has any info on this can they let me know!

iv got a few bits left over from the rip out. if anyone is interested pm me

Days 2

I couldnt leave the RS grill sitting in the box so i decided to fit it.

I parked the car up in the sun, ready for the grill replacement

Typically with in 5 minutes the sun was gone and a storm was in full flow!

New position for work

pre grill removal underground.jpg

Its impossible to gently remove the standard grill so it was a case of just smashing it out!

Grill-less

The RS grill fitted in easily

I fitted a new led rear center bulb (i think makes a massive difference)

And this is the project so far

cheers. headlight restoration will happen sometime this week. Iv also got the colour coded side strips and door handles on their way, so i will get those fitted asap.

Not sure but let me know how you get on, ive been meaning to do this

Something along the lines using brake cleaner? i have no idea

  Clio 2002
according to a youtube vid it is as easy as making toast! ill see how i get on. as long as i keep track of where everything goes i think ill be ok.

carb cleaner or wd40 is the stuff to use

  Clio 2002
i hope so. im under the impression that i have to disconnect the engine and take the entire manifold off in order to reach the throttle body on the bottom of the manifold?

  Clio 2002
thats the one. It seems a lot of work but it will be worth it. iv heard some people have had great results and im sick of the juddering in slow traffic

This is the kit i used (it came in pretty useful with the parts that were harder to sand down

It has made such a difference. the headlights are much brighter.

the only problem i had was i fitted some news side lights (led's) but my right headlights connection just smoked out when i tested them and now wont work. i think it may have shorted and burnt out!

anyone had this before, if so how to fix?

  Clio 2002
cheers

they are for the front, i just got the super whites x9 led's

i need to get some for the rears. iv put the led in the bumper, it looks pretty decent.

definitely get a 3m kit. ill probably do it again at some point

are right looked like you had in the picture got a link to those front ones? i have from led sides but yours look miles brighter! but then again i need to do my lights :/ yeah i have just finding time to do it!

Update

Had some success yesterday with the car. After some much needed advice I re earthed my rear back lights. Thankfully this seems to have corrected the electrical fault warning light and the illumination of the rear fog light dashboard icon when i use my brakes. Touch wood this has corrected the majority of my electrical faults!

My color coded side strips and door handles arrived yesterday so i put them straight on! pics to follow

I am going to swap the door handles at the weekend as i think i need to take the door cards off again

  Clio 2002
basically just take the back lights out and make the connectors a bit tighter with a screw driver, wd40 and reassemble

you got the same issue?

i know i know! I have a myriad of things to do now, as my squeaky brakes (when not braking) are doing my head in.

They're fine, I will try and snap a picture later on if i can, as for illegal bulbs - you're probably thinking of HID bulbs fitted into reflector lamps and/or without washers+self-levellers.

  Clio 2002
i know the feeling, trick is just to do 1 at a time.

yeah they must be the ones. when i asked about them before i guy said that you will get pulled over etc

I've a list of about 10-15 things to do, all little small things like re-taping and re-seating my wind deflectors, replacing broken dash vents etc.

You'd get pulled over if they're in reflector lamps, as they scatter the high-intensity light and blind other drivers. In projector lamps, the light comes out in an even-line, provided they're aligned properly.
I have them in my ph1 projectors and not been pulled over yet!

  Clio 2002
yeah i need to do the dash vents

yeah understandable iv driven passed a few people with them and its not a great experience

  Clio 2002
Pics as promised

Ive added

-New bulbs
-Colour coded side strips

Below, as mentioned before my drivers side light is out (its not the bulb, Ive tried others in both sides)

It could be the fuse but if that was the case wouldn't both sides stop working?

I'm pretty happy with the progress at the moment a lot has changed in 6 weeks! The only thing bringing the car down is the bonnet (as you can see above has a crease and dents left by previous owner!) and the alloys. I am picking a set of anthracite Turini's up next Friday!!!

Recently the problem with the electrical fault light and the revs going absolutely mental has become more frequent, maybe due to the drastic change in weather?!
Anyway I'm planning to rip that shite black box of the back of the manifold as i have been told this is what causes the problem in the first place.

Depending on weather and time i may give the throttle body a clean. I need to buy a new ratchet as we managed to sheer the handle mine when changing my interior! No idea how it happened it just did!

Iv been thinking of giving the engine bay a clean as its looking pretty manky. Iv been advised to get the pressure washer in there but I'm a bit concerned as i know the car doesn't like rain let alone me shoving a hose in the engine bay! Can anyone offer any advice on what and how to cover certain parts up that must avoid the water.

Side strips and stuff look good mate! Lots has changed indeed! You should see the state of my bonnet, it nearly sits half a cm off the car! My slam panel/crossmember is red as well so definitely had a little crash repair going on before!!
The turini's will look amazing :)

I think there was a problem on some 1.2s where part of the loom rubbed on/around the ECU mounting brakcet, i think if it rubbed through a wire or two you could get hunting rev/bad idle etc. Might be worth a search on the forums to see if you can find more info!!
Isn't that 'shite black box' part of your air filter assembly? :p

As for cleaning your engine bay, pressure washing the engien bay can supposedly cause you all kinds of elecric faults, water in spark plug holes, ecu, fuse box etc. You'd probably want to cover up basically everything electrical.. Alternator, battery, ecu,any inlets into the engine etc. You'd be better going at it with degreaser and a rag or if you just don't have the time/volition to do it yourself, find somewhere that does MOT steam cleans etc?

  Clio 2002
Cheers, im really pleased with them and cant wait to get the door handles on! yeah the alloys will top it off!

haha no no the air filter its just a little 'protective' box at the rear of the manifold that ironically does more bad than good. apparently the best place for it is the bin!

yeah iv done it by hand but there are some bits that are a pain to reach. I may give it a steam clean

  Clio 2002
For some reason i keep getting this error appearing every other time i start the car (ignore the service light, this is nothing to do with the error)

I am going to clean the throttle body, etc. Will this correct the issue below?

error.jpg

The service light will no doubt be because of changing the seats! Had it myself just make sure the connectors under the seats and fully in and should go off. Not sure about the thee one luckily I know someone who worked for renault for years and has a specialist laptop so sorted all my cars computer out for me haha

yeah the service did show after swapping the seats over. im going to get my mate to switch it off if i cant get it to disappear.

do you think it needs reprogramming then?

the way the car fluctuates the revs its makes me feel the throttle body is sticking or clogged because if you do not accelerate the car just sits and balances itself out

My coil light popped up on my dash a few weeks ago.

Had it about 3 or 4 times, never knew what it was as it would always go off after a bit of idling.

Turned out that my map sensor was knackered, you could touch it and the engine would stall in neutral.

Do you know anyone close willing to plug in a computer and see what's causing the fault?

  Clio 2002
Yeah iv got a good mate whos a s**t hot mechanic. im due to have an mot with him next month so ill ask him to check it then. im sure the error code is 'L90'

  Clio 2002
I gave the car a detail yesterday. Counting down to friday which is Turini day in my house!

Prep before back to blacking the spoiler (i would like to colour code this at some point)

i am collecting my anthracite 16 turinis on saturday night and ive been looking to paint my drums and calipers.

im thinking

-black rear drums

if anyone has any photos of the combination of anthracite and red please leave a link!

also whats the best stuff to paint them with iv seen Hammerite black, satin black, gloss black, etc!
