Mysterious Sound

My friend has a mysterious sound coming from around the engine bay area and can only be described as a sort of scratching sound which gets considerably louder under braking, we think it is the brakes but not sure what exactly it could be as the brakes still perform well so just wondering if anyone can shine any light on this?

He's got a mk2 ph2 1.4 dynamique+

Does it sound like you've got a flat tyre sort-of noise? And fades when you accelerate, gets louder when you ease off?

Hmm not too sure what a flat tyre sounds like but you are right about it getting louder when easing off.

Well he took it in for it's MOT as it was due to expire soon and the mechanic said it was the OSF disc so he replaced it and all seems well now, god only knows how he managed to damage a brake disc.
