After playing Mario Kart & Goldeneye on an N64 in BrewDog the other day I had to grab one for myself from eBay. So much fun & great for nostalgia replaying games from my youth. Should be delivered this weekend.

Anyone else still got one & still use it? Racking my brain to remember the games I used to love. So far I've got a list of:

Super Mario 64 (already bought).
Mario Kart.
Zelda Ocarina of Time.
Goldeneye.
Banjo Kazooie.

Any others I'm probably forgetting?

(also if anyone has any games or bits sat in a cupboard/loft, let me know ;))

Yeah I still play mine every now and again, amazing console probably the best ever made tbh. Mario 64 and Zelda OoT were way ahead of their time and are pretty much the father of modern gaming and two of the best games ever made. One of the top developer guys at Rockstar North who made the GTA series said "Anyone who makes 3D games who says they've not borrowed something from Mario or Zelda [on the Nintendo 64] is lying."

1080 Snowboarding, Snowboard Kids, Zelda Majora's Mask and Diddy Kong racing were also ace! Perfect Dark was also pretty good, also had Star Wars Episode 1 racer that was also mega.

YES! How did I forget Diddy Kong Racing - loved that game.

Smash Brothers.

Of course! Definitely need to get it.

Used to love 1080 Snowboarding too.

Im looking at buying one myself!
Im not a massive gamer, just after something that me and the mrs can play after work and not spend a bomb on.
Mario Kart was a classic (Rainbow Road was to worst course!)
Legend of Zelda is IMO the best game ever, have brought it on GameCube and 3DS as well
Diddy Kong Racing
Goldeneye
Mario Party was quite fun
Super Mario
there were more but i think you have a good core of games there!
Have Fun! :cool::up::up:

I was looking at the 3DS the other day, I think i might have to get one!

I've got one at home but needs new cables so it hasn't been used in years.

Goldeneye was the most memorable from my youth, having 3 older brothers meant we spent a ridiculous amount of time playing 4 player split screen. Luckily we had a massive (for the time) TV! Was probably only 40"ish but the same in depth!

I used to split the signal in to two tv's (one was black and white), then put cardboard over half the screen, so that me and my mate could play goldeneye without seeing where each other were.

Oh and if you used the speed cheat, then selected the granny character and kneeled down, you were very hard to see on the other persons screen because you were super low down and could speed around them super fast :D

Ha, I used to piss my younger brother off with one shot kill like this - used to just slide on up to him and slap him.

In fact the fun we've had with just slaps only!

I got banned several times for spawn camping in the basement IIRC as you could just chase the fixed spawn points around. I also got banned for using siberian special forces due to the camo effect... fun times.

I find though that these things are best left in the past. I've gone back to a few on the PC and wished I'd left the nostalgia in the mind

Perfect Dark and 1080 Snowboarding are definitely the other 2 to buy.

Duke Nukem? My Dad went to get Goldeneye for me day after it came out, sadly was sold out everywhere, he came back with Duke Nukem... not exactly child friendly!

I remember trying to get my mum to buy that on PC for me. She went up to the counter and asked the lad working there why it was an 18.

I didn't get it.

The N64 will always be a special console in my collection (I have three of them and quite a few games). It was the first games console I worked on when I started professionally making computer games for a living and spent a good couple of years mastering the ins and outs of the system. Loved it. Not quite as powerful in pure polygon pushing terms as the PlayStation but did proper perspective correct texture mapping with basic linear filtering modes.

I've got a couple of rare (never released games) that I worked on on development carts (stored away safely). One or two copies got onto ebay and one of the games was traced back to me (I was assistant lead programmer on the game). Hopefully the story will become part of a book I'm contributing to at the moment that will be released later this year. I also had interview at Rare (back in their heyday) and what an oppressive and awful place that appeared to be; I'm not sure whether or not I passed the entrance exam but I didn't want to work there anyway as it just didn't feel a nice place to be.

It's such a shame that the price of carts eventually led to the (arguably premature) death of the console. It was a LOT cheaper to master and mass produce games on CD.

Happy days :) Great console.

Now reading this thread has made me want to get the N64 out! The games mentioned too, all great.
Perfect Dark was such a good game and I felt lots of people didn't appreciate it, and it's story line was brilliant IMO.

Still, to this day I would say that Legend Of Zelda Ocarina Of Time is the best game I have ever played.
Yes, modern games on ps4 are great, but for its time, and as a young lad with a vivid imagination. It was brilliant.

I made sure to get the version on GameCube too.
I just worry that I'll one day plug in the N64 and it won't work :(

Just as well mate, Rare sold themselves out and look where they're now. They got drowned out, where as they had some serious prestige with Nintendo. I think times were hard for them post N64 launch era, as Nintendo almost scrapped Goldeneye completely due to delayed production

Dodged a bullet! :tonguewink: Lured by Microsoft's money and then... well... they never really recovered. Cynics would argue that this was a deliberate attempt by Microsoft to cripple them and consequently improve the chances of success of their own Xbox system... :tonguewink:

F Zero X is the best N64 racing game. Also had an epic soundtrack.

Zelda OOT (just ahead of skyrim for best solo game for me), Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Super Mario, Mission Impossible, Lylat Wars.

Didn't really like the mario/diddy kart games or donkey kong ones. Majora's mask I played a lot just couldn't get into it as much as OOT.

  R5gtt, 182, volvo...
Still have mine in the loft, I know goldeneye is there..

I did buy the machine with topgear2 which was sheeite, turoc which was also sheeite..

I only started using the machine when I got golden eye and mario64... I actually went in and got a nin64 and PlayStation one the same day early in there releases, felt like a proper baller as I was only young and had a part time job..

The Sony had a lot more to offer, but goldeneye shadowed it.
