N80 Firmware V4

Want some links on flashing the phone myself.

Fed up of having a shite phone with 02 not doing anything about it. It has been down at the Service Centre for the last 3 hours and the f**king c***s have managed to flash the same v3 O2 software onto it which is no difference to what i had. f*****s.

Ideally want links to the firmware to download and sites on how to flash.

Thanks

Sorted now, followed this guide. Changed the country code to a generic phone and updated from there using the Nokia updater.

NSU reads the product code of your phone and it searches its database
for a newer version of the corresponding firmware in order to upgrade it.
This is why you will need to change the product code of your phone into a
non-branded product code, before running NSU.
Download the « NSS » software in order to change the phone’s product code.
This is a shareware program that you can download on the site of its author here :
http://bphreaks.brinkster.net/files/NSS/NSS10373b.zip
After that, download the following program: gsm-magic
http://rapidshare.com/files/1236869/Copie_de_gsm-magic.rar.html
(this is not a crack, but a program that allows the activation of any disabled
option on no matter what program).
And finally, download NSU here: NSU.
http://www.nokia.co.uk/nokia/0,1522,,00.html?orig=/softwareupdate
NOW WE CAN BEGIN:
Install NSS
Install NSU
Connect your phone and wait for Windows to install the drivers.
Open NSS and click on “Scan for new device” on the right-upper part of the window
Click on the icon « Phone info »
Click on “Scan”
Open « gsm-magic » without closing NSS, then push the button « Enable » of “gsm-magic”.
As you can see, now you can change the product code (on the right of the « phone info »
window of NSS). For a Nokia 6680, type the product code 0521637
(this is the product code for France!) and then mark the case “Enable”.
Now press “Write”, and your phone’s product code will be changed
(you might think that nothing happened, because the phone is still in normal mode,
and the changing of the product code only takes a couple of seconds, but don’t worry,
the product code changed !).
Close NSS and “gsm-magic” and you can proceed now with the NSU flashing.
When the flashing with NSU is over, start-up your phone and you’ll have the pleasant
surprise that your phone’s firmware is the latest Nokia non-branded firmware in date!
NOTE: I advise you to disable any antivirus and firewall on your PC during the flashing.
In order to find out the product code for other phone models,
download the firmware for your phone model, connect your phone to NSS, click « Scan »,
then « Flash », and after that look for your product code when on « Market »
you will see your country. Write down this number, then you can start the manipulation as
described above. Anyway, we will soon have the product codes for all the models,
so we won’t need this step.
Product code E61 0529663
product code N70 0523982
product code N80 0526966

there is an option in the phone to update the software. its in the connection options i think. all you need is a wifi connection for it to connect up to.

its --- "connect", then, "device manager", then choose "updates"

Did you do a backup of you phonebook etc using Nokia PC suite?? If yes does it reset you settings to 02??

As above.

Do I need to backup stuff like contacts, sms, pics etc?

Looking forward to trying this out.

Cheers for the guide.

i didnt backup my phone as i had some themes installed to the phone memory which i didnt want on the phone once updated (last time i restored my phone the themes appeared with no way of uninstalling them).

The only back up i did using PC suite was to update the contacts onto your computer as you can then update them back to the phone once sorted.

Other settings will be lost, so will your messages which can be updated to the computer but not back to the phone but i still have O2 internet settings (wap, gprs & mobile web) which i think you get from your sim card. However i could be wrong. You also lose the O2 theme and the O2 startup thing which isnt a loss imo and i have noticed i have lose the preset currency stuff from the convertor which again can be entered manually so nothing major. Other than that everything is the same as far as im aware.

This update has restored my faith in this phone, i now have WiFi working with full internet action, TomTom 6 Navigator is working stabily. So far the phone hasnt crashed and the issues with my Memory card havent appeared so all in all i am very very happy.

The update i mentioned above can be done via the FOTA service as MrMark mention:

"connect", then, "device manager", then choose "updates" (NB: this is only here on the v4 firmware)

I have also been downloading some of the Internet Edition software which from some research is what V5 firmware is. i am using Yahoo! Go application to sort my emails out and i have used the WLAN wizard (found here: http://www.europe.nokia.com/A4195015) which has sorted my WiFi problems.

If anyone needs any help or wants links to decent software then let me know and i can sort stuff out.

I've found the generic firmware is miles better than the bloated O2 firmware - my phone now runs miles better. I did loose my conacts/messages on the update but just loaded the backup no problems - everything on my 2gig memory card wasn't touched!

Is everyone using this Product Code?

Or is there anything else that needs changing

Thought orange had released the v4 software? O2 are they only ones not realising it.

As far as i was aware Orange had stopped anything past the initial release.

NSU would not update mine prior to me changing product code?

Ok i seem to be having trouble?

When connecting the phone to PC are you all using the PC Suite Mode?

Once scanning for the phone in NSS, i dont see my Product code etc.... it does see the phone such as the IMEI No. etc.. but nothing else.

Also if i check in the Flash menu i still see the Product Code for the Orange product code?

Class!

I now have V4.0623.0.41

The hardest part was getting the phone picked up by NSS. I think I put it on General with the Data Transfer connection, though it may have been the pc suite one.

Top man Dave, cheers.

Has, once you have connected the phone correctly, it should give you the IMEI number on the bottom.

On the right hand side where you enter the product code, the box where you type, stays grey. I thought it would go black. By being grey it looks like you can't enter text but you can. Same goes for the 'write' button. Click it.

My phone works a treat.

Cheers.

Sorted it now :D

NSS was being a pain and not changing the Product Code.

It now shows the correct code and (01) after Nokia N80
All branding removed - Mucho Better :star:

Glad to be of service guys... If i get any new stuff ill let you know.

P.S. the update FOTA for .42 doesnt wipe your settings/contacts etc... it just updates a few bits so not essential but worth it for free.

You don't have a similar guide for an N70 do you?

I'd have imaged it was the same so trying to do my girlfriends phone in a similar manner I got as far as using NSS.

When I use NSS on my N80 it only picks up the phone if I have it in PC Suite connection mode.

When I connect her N70 it just seems to connect via USB. There doesn't seem to be an option anywhere that will let me change this to the PC Suite mode.

I've updated to V3.0546.2.3 18-11-05 RM-84 by using NSU but after a quick bit of research, I've found that there's a V5.odd.

I'm assuming debranding the Orange phone will let me get to V5 but I can't get the phone picked up is NSS.

Any advice mucho appreciated.

The N70 will only show connected via usb (which is pc suite mode) as its the only connection type the N70 will allow. The N80 allows you to connect in either pc suite mode, memory stick mode, pictbridge or media mode. You don't need to worry with the N70 as it only supports pc suite mode.
