Name the Induction Kit

  328, MK1 Clio 1.4
I have had this on the clio since I bought it, does anyone know what it is, is it anything descent, or a cheap n nasty halfords special?

I'm thinking about performance, will it benefit from changing to a pipercross or something else, or just stick with this?

looks a little like a K&N, take the filter off and have a look around the plastic edgings for manufacture markings etc.

Looks like a K&N but to small for the one that fits our engine? probably loosing you bhp if its not designed for the engine though, get a Espace V6 airbox from Renault for £60 new, much better.

Thought about the espace box, but I do quite like the sound I get from the current one. Although if I were losing bhp then it would probably be worth it . . . what other good induction kits are there then?

that looks like a k & n, try a pipercross venom direct cold air intake from the front of the car, were as that one is just sucking in the hot in from the engine.

that's a K&N M's if i'm not mistaken. Excellent filter, but they dont do well on clios due to position behind the radiator causing heat sink.

A clean and re-oil and it'll be good as new

So should I get a Pipercross or similar that is often used on 172's or get an Espace V6 airbox?

Also do I have to remove a fog light to get direct cold air intake, or is there another position it can go?

i had one of them, major heatsoak lol, ive got a pipercross viper now loads better than that, although performance wise its probably no different to standard box. you will be losing power with that filter youve got now though.

If you clean it, give it a better cold air feed then you shouldn't get any power drains really. I had a K&N on an found it ok, but too chavvy for me. I'm putting the espace on in a week or so. If I ever get round to it :S. Have a read on removing the acoustic valve (although not sure if the 172 has this) and run a feed from the filter down to the front left fog area (coolest part of the bay). You could always stick you're standard box back on and remove the lower cold air tubing and the noise isn't too dissimilar to the K&N.
