I have left pipex now after 12 months and need a new isp that doesnt throttle and allows newsgroup downloading and p2p downloading. Im not too worried about price just need a decent reliable provider that is unlimited and works well with xbox live as well, any ideas guys

Thanks

You have to pay for unlimited quality tho.. and VERY few providers now do "unlimited".
Most "consumer" providers will be throttling something.. and unfortunatly, P2P traffic isn't deemed as a high priority so it often gets hit first.. along with FTP etc..

nildram.

no throttling at all.

50gb on peak, unlimited off peak, uploads not counted.

Lets not forget that any unused credit from a month rolls over to the next month. (only once, and your new months credit is used before the rolled over credit - but it's still very good)

They do shape traffic ;)

bearing in mind i work for them i have a fairly good idea what traffic shaping goes on

it might say that on the website, but since i've been at nildram there has NEVER been any singular people traffic shaped. it's not physically possible, they do not have the facilities in place to do this. the only time there has been any traffic management in place is when there was a firmware upgrade done on some routers which caused a problem, and that was fixed fairly quickly.

Seems a bit silly to say you do traffic shape but then don't? Like, it would make you stand out from a lot of other providers?

You don't even prioritise say, VoIP traffic?

if we said we don't traffic shape, and then we decided to then i'm sure there would be uproar (as there has been in the past when pipex introduced traffic shaping onto the nildram network, and it was removed again after a few weeks because of the amount of customers that left).

i'm pretty sure that if our network became congested then certain traffic like vpn and voip would be prioritised, but as there is not really any congestion even at busy times people won't notice any slowdown. during the traffic shaping debacle back in october the official statement that we had through from pipex was that they had shaped nntp and p2p and prioritised realtime services, but as i said, it caused uproar so they revoked it completely.

I'm with sky and they don't have a cap or shape if your on the max package £10pm. They have a fair useage but unless your doing 300gb+ every month you will be ok.

sky sound pretty good, been reading up on skyuser forums, we used to have the pipex homecalls which worked out that broadband cost 5.99, so probably gonna go with the sky deal, tv, calls and bb for 35 odd quid.

I have the internet at the mo, found a few wireless signals without wep, even tho the signal is weak it still runs pretty well, will keep me going until I get the line activated with sky.

Thanks
