need advice on my breaking

  clio
Hi guy and girls I'm looking to improve my breaking performance on my Renault. I've got a 1.2 litre mk2 Clio I know it's not the fastest car but I like to shall we say errrr have fun in it and I'm not getting the perfonce from the standard disks and pads. Any advise would be great thanx

When googling for parts try searching for braking instead.

DS2500 pads (i think) is what everyone used on here, along with Brembo discs, but don't know if they're available for none sports.

I've looked for brembo disks but they seem the same as the standard ones but I've found a site that sell some call black diamond. They are drilled and grooved and the matching pads have got good reviews too

Hi morris, you have currently wented front discs or not? Have seen some ph1's 1.2 with non-vented and they often dont brake very well.

No typhoon let's just say I don't always go the speed I should when there a similar cars racing I mean driving next to me I'll see if I can send G172 a message thanx ben

I'm stuck with this banger I had a crash a month after I passed on my wife's insurance. My first year of my own insurance is nearly up with a monitoring box fitted that's how bad my insurance quotes was to start with £4,400 on a 1.2 Clio lmao

Alarm bells

Facepalm

Riiiiiiight.

Ever thought that instead of trying to make up for the cars 'lack' of brakes (which are actually perfectly fine for a sensible 1.2 shopping runabout), maybe you could improve your driving standards? Just a thought. It'd be cheaper too.

morris89 . Not the best introduction to a forum imo , saying you like to have " errrr have fun in it " and also that stating that you don't stick to the speed limit , you like to race other cars and then to top it off , you tell everyone that you crashed only a month after passing your test lol . You don't sound like the most responsible of road users to be honest mate .

If you brakes aren't working then buy new pads and discs (Renault ones). They're more than up to the job.

You don't need to f**k about with aftermarket stuff, by the time you're back up to any sort of speed they'll have cooled down - anything beyond standard or equivalent is just going to be a waste of money.

Your car is probably due a fluid change too and new lines (might aswell get braided if you're changing them) to take the sponginess out of them.

Well I'm my defence it was an akward one because we was on an island and a car came around but I pulled out off one lane and i was more or less in the other lane but he flew around the island and hedidn't stop but unlucky for me there was a guy he new in the traffic and this guy came around the island after it happen and started shouting I saw it all so really I couldn't fight it but 99% of the time I'm good just get that urge sometimes like everyone does. I had some bad luck that day I'm a nice guy really Billy I'm not one off these idiots who just razzes everywhere lol

Thanx Jeff I'll try that it will be a lot cheaper too

Everyone has fun time to time sticking there foot down not following the speed limits either but hey I'm not judging if you got a nice car why not I say

You must be driving like a plank to need extra braking power on a 1.2

They are pretty powerful standard.

Decent pads is your first move

Agreed. I have a Clio 1.2 (MK3 though if it matters?) with Renault vented discs and Pagid pads and very impressed with how it stops, always got confidence I can stop if I need to but obviously brake far in advance whenever possible.

You say the way it stops, do you mean once, or no fade after continuous hard braking over and over?

Not meaning to single out your post mate, but I never quite understand why people think a different pad means their car stops quicker. You're either maximising the friction on the tyres or not (you can do this with standard pads - think ).

Bit of both really, it stops quite well IMO and never seems to fade or anything, wasn't listing the pad as the reason, just wanted to say I don't have anything special like DS2500s (right name?) and mine stops fine, fairly standard brakes IMO.

To be honest I haven't changed them since I've had them so the rrgualr Renault ones might do the trick a clean flush and some new break fluid might do the trick I suppose that's why I asked to start with a few people have said just put new standard brakes and disks then bleed the breaks and then new fluid so I'll get it all started over the next two weeks thanx guys

Sell your car and doing some kind of 'advanced' driving course :S

Other than that... just replace discs and pads for new OE if they need doing, get your fluid changed (very cheap...) and consider braided hoses if you really fancy spending some cash as I can't see they'll be anymore expensive than OE hoses.
