Fitted a sub and amp earlier today was working fine, until suddenly, (YOU GUESSED IT) it stopped working...

Red protect light came up on my amp and the sub stopped working..

Every time i pull the two remote wires out the back of the headunit the light goes off then when i plug them back in they go back on again, the wires are not being pinched or anything, any idea whats going on?

Sounds like a dodgy earth to me. It shouldn't be anything to do with the remote wire. The remote wire tells the amp when to switch on with the stereo. If the earth is dodgy, when the remote wire is plugged back in, it switches the amp back on, if a dodgy earth, the protect light will come back on again

2 each side.. double sided, 2 going into amp other side going into the head unit, when i remove the remote wires from the head unit the light goes off, when i put back in it goes on again, it was working earlier so i dunno wtf happened, cant be a dodgy amp.

Removing the remote wire will turn the red light off as that means there is no longer power going to the amp at all.

If you plug the remote back in, it will light up red (protection mode) as there is an earth problem.

What amp have you got? Ive got a FLI900 here that is constantly on protection mode for some reason, tried various earth points around the car and it will always cause a spark at the wire, dim the protection light for 2 seconds and then bring it back on again in protection mode.

if you got a multi meter with a current setting 99.9% have it

the way to find if it is a bad earth put the multi meter on current dc and make sure probe are in the right holes

switch head unit and amp on but turn the volume down so you can just hear it

then stick one probe on the - terminal on the amp then jab the other on some bare metal parts

then if the amp fires up it's definatly a bad earth connection
