Need some advice... 1.2 troubles

  The Bus and MRT
My gf has a 1.2 16v Dynamic and it's coming up to three years old so the warranty expires on the 23rd of Jan.

She's been having problems for the last 6 months, basically the car just cuts out usually when at junctions. I've posted on here before about it and was told it was the ignition coils.... trouble is she's had it back to Lookers in Stockport 4 times for the same fault in the last 5 or 6 months, they say they've fixed it then a month later it happens again! Obviously they don't know what the problem is and are incapable of fixing it, it's dangerous to drive as it's cutting out at junctions and she's lost all confidence when driving it. She tried to complain today when we dropped it off saying at the very least she expects her warranty to be extended, the woman behind the desk was extremely unhelpful and told her she'd have to pay to get the warranty extended wtf!

Personally I think they should replace the car, they obviously can't fix it, it's not safe to drive and they've failed to honour the warranty. Anyone else had a similar experience and can offer some advice?

Cheers

I've had loads of trouble trying to get something fixed under warranty, I've finally managed to get it sorted, but it look a hell of a lot of complaining! Try getting on to renault uk.

  Turbos.
I'd take it up with Renault UK, or simply try another dealer as Deb has said.

You can buy a cheaper and better warranty with Warranty Direct when it expires.

I know, I've really never know anything like it! I had so many tiny little niggles on my vtr, but citroen never once questioned it, they just told me to pop it down the following day and it was all sorted under warranty, no matter what!

So you guys think they know what the problem is but refuse to fix it because of cost and are just putting a temporary fix inplace until the warranty expires? w*****s, why would they do that surely the dealerships get rembursed by renault for any work they carry out so why are they trying to skimp on the repairs?

Anyone got a link for renault UK compaints?

Cheers

  None
It could be the Idle Speed Control Valve. I had the same problem om my mk1 ph3 and once I replaced it, the car never cut out since

  182 RB FF
I used to have this problem on my 1.2 Used to get an orange light come up on the dash and it would stall unless I reved it until the light went out.
Went back and forth to the garage loads of time, never got it sorted in the end Sold it back to garage "with no problems" and got my 182.

Hmm, I did try to sell her my 172 with 94k on the clock... she said she was worried it would have too many problems lol. The bloke I sold it to has let me know it passed it's MOT first time and all is well, bizzare how the 1.2s seem to have more troubles than 1*2's that are driven harder :S

Guess we'll just have to see what excuse they come up with this time when she picks it up

You have to remember dealerships have to claim the emoney back from Renault Uk and thereoften terribale at paying refusing to often after dealers have paid for the work and the new parts etc no dealership receptionish is realy going to fight for you for an expended warently off Renaul UK if your difficult with them why should they care?

You can extend the normal warentl if you want.

But take the car to another dealership for warently work and get it checked sounds like the TDC sensors worn or the throttle bodys dirty.

If you want to try and get a different car you've got a challenge on your hands the cards 3 years old why should a deaslership accep the fact they've most likly lost money working on your car without being pay by Renault and again accept cost for getting her a new car?

Try another though there loads of problem with the 1.2 engine spark plus coils Tdc sensor Map sensors mapping the list goes on (actually runs to a whole folder full)

what is it with renault and warranties - they always make a fuss
Its the dealership being "difficult" Renault Uk warently are a pain to dealers often so dealers get it from both customers and the people there trying to get the money off.

They only get rembused to a certain degree if they return a failed part (there are exceptings for rework etc). Sounds like the garrage is doing there best maybe the've never had a proper techie (if ithey have one) work on the car and fixes are just the quick ones since the mechanics got to get though 10 cars and not got the time to spend ages checking exactly what the cause is as there costing the company £70 an hour so an hours fixes is £70 which they'll never get back from you as you'll only be annoyed anyway since its gone wrong in the first place (and your not going to pay them for there time are you?) and secondly they won't be paid and extra for the work the've put it.

Not like that on the Mk2's

Cheers for the advice Edde, I'll tell the GF she's screwed and to try another dealership although it will be out of warranty before it breaks again

  1.2 16v Dynamique.
time to get a bit more agressive with renault i think. take it to another dealer and tell that you want it sorted properly as you have already been messed about by lookers in the past. after all it is still under warranty at the moment so whats the problem?! there is a link on the renault uk web site for complaints and from experience i can tell you that they reply the next day so do that too. good luck!
