Network Connection Help - Strange problem

  Fiesta ST
Background:

Vista connecting to XP machine. Firewalls are off, NTFS permissions are correct, share permissions are correct.

Problem:

I have a Vista machine which needs to connect to a XP machine for a database share. The Vista machine will not connect to the xp machine using the share name \\eproserver but will connect via \\192.168.254.20 (all xp machines connect to this share no problem, other vista machines have the same problem now and again. If I reboot the vista machine I can access the \\eproserver for a little time after it boots up (sometimes not) but if left I can't log in.

Permissions are ok as I can log in via IP (see screenshot), I've cleared all caches for name resolution.

sometimes I can connect via \\eproserver most of the time I can't.

any ideas?

If you do a "ping -a 192.168.254.20" what do you get?

If you got to run and type "\\eproserver" what do you get?

  Better than yours. C*nt.
Likely to be an issue with the File Sharing settings in Vista's Networking stuff...

I could get the software vendors to change the path name to the ip but I want to sort the issuse rather than speak to india for an hour explaining the problem.

Yeah I've been playing with them , funny thing is the Vista machine can connect to other XP machines no problem - seems to be just the XP machine running the database software.
