enable wep or wpa encryption, or setup an access list of mac addresses.

WPA is more secure so use that unless you have an old wireless card that doesnt support it like my old works sony vaio

Most routers you connect using the IP address of http://192.168.0.1 or similar and you make the changes to the router itself.
