new 172 owner from Chester :-)

hi all, im Sharkey. thought i'd join this forum as i've just bought a 2002 clio 172, great fun car up to now, bought it relatively cheap with a few niggly jobs to do. first up was cambelt, dephaser, oil and filter change and coolant flush. done by a renault specialist near me called IGNITION (based in Sandycroft, North Wales)

the car

2002 clio 172
eibach springs, renault speedline turini's with toyo T1R tyres, powerflow cat back system, short shift. thats about it for mods really as far as i can see, i wanted a standard example but after viewing this one it was hard to turn down.

the niggles

rear discs and pads crumbling away, climate control was permanently cold, got it warm last night now it's stuck on hot! , speedo is intermittent- jumps from actual speed, to zero, then back up again a few minutes later.

i've tackled the rear discs and pads, now the climate and speedo to sort, any pointers?


finally the wheels have plain centres fitted, bit of a let down really. from what i've read i can only fit the metal genuine speedline caps to mine and not the diamonds. is this correct?

Im from preston on thr Hill near frodsham (not far from Chester) and have just bought a 172 cup with similar mods for sprinting. I have the same speedo problem so im going to change the sensor and see if that does it.

Welcome Sharkey, get a Tom Tom for speedo.. Check out nw meets section. . What did you pay for belts dephaser etc..

currently researching the RS tuner box. is easiest option to buy new and then sell on once happy with map etc.?

i know theres a way of buying 2nd hand and unlocking etc but surely must work out similar price to buying new in the end?

450 is a good price.

I got mine done at Birchdown near Malpas. Really really good guys and knowledge. I got a fair bit of other work done at the same tine so not sure on price comparison. Theyre ex Renault engineers so about as knowledgable as you can get when it comes to Clios ;-)
