new 182 or alfa 156

  MKIII 138

stuck on what to get. a 182 (with recaros hehe) brand new or a 2nd hand 156 GTA ? ?

the 182 is nice but its just sounds too weedy and a loud exhaust noise isnt my idea of a nice sounding car. however the GTA wont go point to point anywhere near as fast in the real world

Yeh i knew a guy with one and he loved the look of the car and all that but he hated getting 24 or less to the gallon without pushing it

alfas are fragile, expensive to service and dont hold there value, but look the dogs bollox imo
better than the 182 and more exclusive!

Ive had a 156 V6, not GTA. A little bit nose heavy, but lovely to look at and to drive and the engine sounds sweet and goes like stink.

Brakes are supposed to be cack on them as well. The GTV and Spider just eats though them in a few thousand miles

Not that a clio site id trying to sway your opinion! ;)

just been driving a couple of 156s 2.0 JTS thingys

BRAKES: worst spongy cack I have ever experienced

and crappy plastics

But they look sweet!

just wanna look like mafia. and impress the ladies with my meaty v6 note hehe.. the alfa has some exellent tuning options and much cheaper than clios stuff. i.e superchargers for 2.5k fitted, LSD, also ecu remap with 8000rpm limit (higher than a ctr by 200rpm) on the 3.2 GTA imagine how awesome that would sound !! 147s are more expensive around 18k 2nd hand and the 156s start around 15k.. so basically 12.5k 182-cup options etc.. or 15k for 2nd hand 156GTA ?

Bit of a bizarre comparison, cant you find 2 cars more similar to choose from.

No.

Seen 147 GTAs for £16500 in Trader, some other on the forum drove one for a while and managed to get 7 mpg! Im having a dilemma with which car to get at the moment, the 182 with recaro option and Cup extras is a very good deal, especially when you compare it to what else is on the market. I was reading a report in Autocar last night on the 156 and they rate it, aslong as you get FASH, do not accept anything that hasnt got it. You hardly see any on the road so thats a plus IMO..its a tough one. Cant even decide what I want so theres no way Ill be able to decide for you, sorry

Do you keep finding your budget slowly but surely creeping up??

they do look good with the kit and those biss ass cloverleaf alloys. Question is, do you want a pocket drainer or something that will be cheap to run and destroys most other cars on the road

I dont think the 156s are any less reliable if that helps. Ive heard good things about the newer alfas, but only if theyre maintained well.

Two totally different beast though really. If I wanted a bit more practicality then 156. I personally reckon they hold their value very well as well, as the GTAs are desirable cars.

I certainly dont think the 182 would give you more return after 3yrs from 12k than the 2nd hand 156.

thats what happens when you want a cool car just out of your reach. clioturs why dont you get a 182 come on lets face it 250bhp 147 cant be that fast ;)

having driven a 147GTA, and a 156GTA, I would say this - even if they are not as fast point 2 point on a bumpy, fast road as a 182, the moment you fire up that V6, you will be totally mesmerized by that car. I know the 182 is fabulous and arguably better, but the GTAs are wonderfully brawny and emotionally alluring - pure theatre on wheels. They survive to remind us why we got hooked on cars in the first place.

Clio 182 = great car

GTA = very special car

And Ive sat in a top spec 2L TS 147, and the interior really was something else. Like a mini Ferrari. The ones in the GTA look really something. Superb driving position as well. Best Ive sat in.
