Hullo!

What a day! Sold my civic Type-R this morning, and put a deposit down on a 182 FF with cup packs this afternoon!

04 plate, Racing blue (no stripes), climate control, 22k miles, £8000 :)

Dont you think its possible he found the clio more fun to drive? I mean i know how many people in here would sleep with a civic type R if it were a person, but not everyone subscribes to the view that its neccesarily a better car. ;)

I've driven one, and the word soul-less springs to mind.

Thanks guys. had a 60mile blast home last night and was well impressed. The reason I changed is I had the CTR for 4 years, it was a fantastic car, and I'll greatly miss it. But it costs a lot to run, and I needed something a little smaller, newer with some aircon!

So I found my 2year old 182, FSH, ex demo, climate control, superguard etc 22k, for £8000.

Comparissons against the CTR are interesting, and quite eye opening. I have heard so many magazines and TV shows go on about how better the handling is on a clio, this is not true. Yes, there is more feel in the steering (but not nearly as much as I was expecting), and you can throw it in and catch it quicker when it breaks away. But you drive the CTR smoother and more precisely, it requires a slightly different driving style, and when you get it right, it would certainly keep up with anything for, and a lot over the same money. Sure, it can get unsettled mid corner if the bump is big enough, but then so can a 182.....
The CTR is a different car to the clio and should be taken that way. It is bigger, far better built, smoother, more refined and comfier than a clio, but not ultimately as much fun or as chuckable. I wish more people could be honest rather than biased in their opinions!

I'm gonna love the clio I can already tell, but the two are a close call. One mans meat etc...

I'm off for another blast! :d

Just my opinion I know, and as ever, there will be some people that can't see past their own steering wheel. Which is a shame!

I wasnt disputing it (CTR) wasnt a good car. It just didnt light my fire. My problem with it was that it was perhaps too clinical. That indeed suggests that it is capable, and sure enough, it is. However, the Clio just seemed more fun. More edgy. A bit more raw. Perhaps a bit more brutal.

Just my opinion mind, but i just didnt like it, sorry.

Cup is quicker because its lighter, full fat 172 comes with air con etc... Cup for me as you can see, but others prefer full fat version.

thats exactly what i think plus added to that all the extra kit for less money too plays a big part.

And I didn't say you did! lol

Up to you what you think, my point was some people cannot see past the car they own, and think they can judge a car after having a 5min test drive.

if it was directed at me then ive had a hell of a lot more than a test drive ... (just because you said it after i said i thought the 182 was better imo)

I had a pretty long test drive as well. As i say, capable car, but for me theres a reason why the clio is often regarded as a hot hatch king and not the civic. It just lacks that "x-factor" for me. :)

  Honda Civic Type R
I totally agree with you there TypeRobbo. i'm a type r owner and have recently joined this forum just to find out a bit more about clio's. the clio 172/182 seems to me to be more of a thrill-seekers only type of car. it's is pure hot hatch and nothing else. that's what renault do best imo. you can chuck it into a corner a lot quicker than a type r and the handling is much more go-kart like (especially on the cup) mainly due to it's light weight and short wheelbase. i think the type r is a more complete car overall and yet definitely has the abiltiy, when driven hard, to keep up with any other hot hatch out there.

I've never actually had a proper drive in a clio 172/182 but been in my mates (lei69gh on this forum) loads of times and round town it is rapid. my type r requires a more delicate touch when going round roundabouts and sharp bends but you can get the power down on the way out quite early and when the vtec kicks in pretty soon you're seriously flying. Just look at the video with Jason Plato beating an s2000 in a ctr round a track and you can see how capable these cars are.

Not sure which is more fun as i've never owned a clio. I think it's a case of personal preference. On my ctr forum there are a lot of ex clio owners who converted to ctr ownership simply because they fancied a change.

As for it being soul-less, that's one of the silliest comments i've ever heard. it's got one of the best production engines ever made. it's sounds the b*lllocks, can rev hard all day and puts a huge grin on your face everytime you hit vtec when other cars are busy trying to find the next gear. soul-less is a diesel engined vauxhall vectra, not a highly strung, rev happy type r
