New 197 or Second Hand R26

  Megane Team II F1 R26
R26 all day long :) all about the turbo..... makes the power very usable and on tap all the time, but then i have never been a 'drop it down two cogs to get it going' kinda person.

R26 for me if I had the choice Zippy.

Have you seen / driven either to help you decide yet mate ?

No_Our local Renault dealer treat you like something they have wiped off their shoe so I refuse to deal with them.

Different strokes for different blokes imo. I love high revving NA lumps, nothing more satisfying then giving it a good wringing. Turbo lumps are for lazy boys ;)

lazy boys that stay in front ;) but your right different strokes and all that, when the r26 went in for service ended up being in for 4days, borrowed my mates CTR and well yeah it returned 30mpg but hated the fact you had to sit up in the 6k plus world before it got interesting.

Go to main dealer let him give you all the chat then poke em in the eye grab the keys & run for it Zippy! Get yourself on a test drive before you choose!, failing that there must be friendly locals on here that have a Meg or a clio that can help you out ?

i'd go for the new car everytime, but the R26 is the better car if 2nd hand doesn't put you off.

Love the thought of having a brand new car as I have never had one but surely it looses so much of its value in the first year.

You like losing 5K Gareth? :)

if i didn't think I would be keeping the R26 i wouldn't buy new, but I know I am, I may have only recently changed from a 225 but because I bought well it hardly cost me anything in the grand scheme of things, for very reasonable money I've had two brand new cars in the last year and a half. Its okay if buying second hand is your thing, but I'd rather buy new and have no hidden secrets/problems, dealers can lie just as much if not more than the public, especially when it comes to service history/smart repairs.

I can only base on looks as i've not driven either, but i'd go for a meg tbh. I quite like the meg trophy (the grey one with anthracite wheels)

horses for courses... the R26 is a great car, enough to tempt me into ordering one as a replacement for my old Trophy... however i have the R27 and don't regret it.... n/a and great fun, lacking ever so slightly in power on the Meggy, but still a great handling fun car.

Sh33n on here has an R26 which he loves, but drove my R27 and came back grinning, he'd forgotten how fun it is to take a n/a lump round to the red line...

everyone has opinions, the R26 is definitely starting to prove to be a good second hand buy though. If it's a 197 though it needs to have the Cup suspension

Yer I'd agree with that.

For me the R26 is the better car; I do quite a few miles and I like the ability to have the car sitting at low revs on the MWays, but then still having plenty of torque and power available.

I Also like the size of the Megane, etc.

However when I drove the Funkys R27 I was very much impressed and certainly did have a big grin on my face but the R27 isn't the car I'd want on a daily basis personally given the miles I do.

They are different cars, get a good drive in both, which ever you went for I'd doubt you'd regret.

I've not driven an R26, but have driven a 197.

But if it was me I think I'd go for the R26 as long as I liked it. Although I do like the N/As, I hate the way that from idle to 5k rpm, it does nothing special.

I take it, I'm a lazy boy lol.

R26 all the way - quite a few in LY up for sale. People with white ones and too much money need to hurry up and get bored with them so I can buy one.
