New 271bhp Hyundai i30

Didn't the EVO review mention a 380 bhp one too? I reckon this one needs to be around £25k to get a foot hold in the market. I don't think many vag owners will give it a look but it could steal plenty of Renault, ford or Vauxhall drivers. Gotta be worth a test drive.

The WRC car is 380bhp?

The Performance version (271bhp instead of 241) is £28k.

I hope this is the car that shuns a lot of bigger manufacturers that are in the same field. Golfs, etc.
It'll have to try very hard to pull people out of their Golfs.
Or be ultra-limited edition.

Imagine trying to convince ClioSport to shun a new Golf GTi deal in favour of a Hyundai. There'd be uproar and banpoints everywhere because of 'Pauper'

List price counts for nothing.

This will live or die on the PCP deal.

Given that you can lease/PCP a Golf GTI for less than a 1L i30 at the minute they're going to have to offer something special.
Very true.

But aren't the PCP figures based off of perceived future value? The future value of any Korean barge is going to be pittence, simply because "ItS NOT A guLF!"

Notionally yes, but the manufacturer can always provide an inflated future value to bring the monthlies down. It may end up costing them money, but it'll get cars on the road.

VW pretty much did exactly that with the Golf R lease deals.

Loss leaders.
Yep, get them on the road, make money back from dealer servicing.

Be interesting to see if there are decent discounts on these through brokers or not.

High praise from Sutcliff in that video, it’s like the best of the Megane RS range but more composed - blimey.

Makes sense though - the Megane has moved on a lot from the hardcore car it used to be. Don't get me wrong, it's still hardcore, but it's also a lot more 'fleshed out'.

The Hyundai just makes things simple again. That said, auto downshift blip would piss me off. I do that, car, not you.

Fastest is best, how much a week was secondary, when I was selling Kawasaki 750/3 H2`s.

Watching that video it reminded me of the Mk3 Focus RS with its popping and banging and as Steve said a Megane R.S on the Handling and 'feel' Front. High praise indeed. It's going to be very interesting indeed against the latest crop.

It does make you wonder how the upcoming Megane R.S can better a Hyundai for heavens sake! LOL. Even that 308 GTi 'By Peugeot Sport' is a an absolute cracker, we are spoilt for choice.

Looks like that’s one of the good things about it, you can vary all of the settings individually and assign them to a mode. Want the auto-blip off, suspension in max comfort, noisiest exhaust, most aggressive diff settings and medium throttle settings - you can have that, and any other combination you want.

Things you won`t find in a list of Tesla list of options?

Great review, cheers for posting. It looks to be basically what hot Clios are (or should be) - enough power to keep things interesting but not enough to get you into too much trouble, but with a fully sorted chassis that's dripping with feedback, so you can work everyone of those horses to their maximum potential, rather than having a mega-power car that has a vague front end and numb steering and therefore can't be properly thrown into a corner because you don't really know how much grip there is.

I can't heel and toe to save my life. Size 13 feet plus being a clumsy b*****d. Therefore I welcome our computerised throttle-blipping overlords with open arms :)

It's getting rave reviews already. Apparently, better than a Golf GTI, accordingly to Steve Sutcliffe. I really like it. The issue will be the potential lack of decent lease/PCP deals on them, compared to the usual VAG products. This may be a great car but the public needs a good incentive to be able "buy" them.

She'd kill me but I'd buy that in a heartbeat and track the 200!!
Don't think the Dubai dealer will grow a pair and get it over here though...

Selectable screamer pipe?
Same kind of idea as a switchable backbox, but diverting around the cat instead?

Think it looks good and will probly drive and perform very well . It just will not be desirable and after 3 years will be worth f**k all compared to other similar cars it's a shame but that is what will happen .

This is a good thing. Pick one up at 2 or 3 years old for pennies then run it into the ground over many many years. One of these may well become my daily instead of another Fiesta ST when I get to the point of retiring the RS.

They'll holdmoney while the warranty is still in effect.

As for "lol, who'd buy the 250hp one"..... Who'd buy a Clio without it being a cup-packed RS?
Or a Merc that isn't an AMG?
